States rated smartest to dumbest.

edit: My state, Illinois, falls comfortably in the middle (27), albeit the dumb side of the middle.

Greetings,

As a not so surprising note to this, the states that pay their teachers the most and are the most selective in their requirements are all bunched up at the top.

And the states who argue about things like "creation science" instead of training and paying their teachers respectable salaries are all bunched up at the bottom.

Not suprisingly California ranks real low (#44)! Then I read the survey measures. They count drop-out rates against the final score. Well, duh! I know people who dropped out of school just because the education system sucked -- who then went on to college so they could learn things.

Yeah, but I bet it should be lower. I know when I went they did stuff to make our school system look better. Like I went to Brick Memorial our math program bites ass, but we had a good rating for math at our school, mostly because they dumbed down the math classes so everyone could pass.

Surprised Montana is a 4 though, my guess would be that the schools could spend more time one on one with the students, I think my cousin said his average class size was like 15 kids to a class, were mine was 35 to class.
