edit: My state, Illinois, falls comfortably in the middle (27), albeit the dumb side of the middle. [ 10-06-2003: Message edited by: Zair ]
Thank god for private schools.
Startling.

Wow.
Sadly, better than I expected.
Not bad. Gotta feel sorry for the folks living in New Mexico, though.
Public schooling:
#17 Virginia
#21 North Carolina
#?? Guam
As a not so surprising note to this, the states that pay their teachers the most and are the most selective in their requirements are all bunched up at the top.
And the states who argue about things like "creation science" instead of training and paying their teachers respectable salaries are all bunched up at the bottom.

Yeah, but I bet it should be lower. I know when I went they did stuff to make our school system look better. Like I went to Brick Memorial our math program bites ass, but we had a good rating for math at our school, mostly because they dumbed down the math classes so everyone could pass.
Surprised Montana is a 4 though, my guess would be that the schools could spend more time one on one with the students, I think my cousin said his average class size was like 15 kids to a class, were mine was 35 to class. [ 10-06-2003: Message edited by: Peter ]

I'm sure after McGreevy gets a hold of the budget again we'll plummet 20 spots.
