Topic: Unspecified main character of simpsons to come out of the closet

posted 09-26-2003 08:00:58 PM
I just heard on the news that a main, non-child character of The Simpsons is going to reveal thier homosexuality in a future episode.

My question to you all: Who do you think it'll be?

I'm looking at Ned Flanders.

I'm calling Smithers.

He might seem like a burning chunk of masculinity, but I think under the surface there is just a fightened little girl begging to come out.

Not Mr. Burns, his heterosexuality exists solely to bother Smithers.

Smithers.. Though, you *know* he's gay anyways... but it would be just like the show to have him accually say it.

They'll probably make the whole episode about whether or not Smithers is truly gay then at the end someone else comes out, letting Smithers off the hook.

Indeed. It would be stupid to have an obviously gay character come out. There's nothing wowing about that

Anyways, Lenny and Carl being gay would be hilarious.

I'd rather just Carl be gay. He can use an extra layer of depth since Lenny already gets all the good lines.

Not smithers. They said a while ago that he was not gay, but he was more of a 'burnsophile'. Besides, when is it ever the most obvious person who is the answer?

Having a simpsons class came in useful.

i think they will make it look like Smithers is going to come out of the closet, and then bring somebody from way out of left field to actually be it.

Having Smithers or Lenny/Carl come out of the closet will be too anti-climatic, and expected. Its better if it is a surprise.

Yes, but for anyone else to have shot Mister Burns, you would've had to have ignored all that Simpson DNA....and that would just be silly.

Then why did he vacation at a gay resort? And why did he have a spat over a missed date with the other gay dude (can't remember the name) who became friends with Marge in the deerhunting episode?

Smithers is gay as the get.

I'd bet Lenny or Carl, as there are a lot of hints pointing that direction.

John was the guy he had a spat with.

I do agree that he is utterly gay, but I think that his obsession with Mr. Burns trumps any other relationships that he may have on the side, if any. He is obsessed with Burns to the degree that it almost seems redundant to ask if he is gay.

As an interesting note, I found this while I was looking up the episodes which says:

quote:
Aaron Varhola, who attended David Silverman presentation in San Francisco, says: Someone asked if there were any gay characters. Silverman said `Smithers, and Karl (Homer's secretary from 7F02)". End of story. (Add John from "Homer's Phobia" to this list-Ed.)

Also a great list of all the instances that it shows where Smithers acts gay.

Yeah, remember the episode where they were seperated, and Lenny got emotional when they passed Mount Carlmore(Which he carved himself,) and Carl came out of a helicopter to save him?

Also always being together... Since they're mostly background characters(though recognizable as main characters,) it'd come to a shock as people wouldn't have guessed.

Though my top guess would have been Milhouse, if not for his repeatedly brung-up infatuation with Lisa.

Smithers is too obvious, in my mind he's already out. How about Groundskeeper Willie? Besides the failed marriage to Sherry Bobbins (I think that's how you spell it), I have never seen him with a woman.

In one episode the school psychiatrist accidentally pulled Milhouse's record instead of Bart's and told Homer and Marge Bart had definite homosexual tendencies.
