Being #8 on the top 250 movies of all time on imdb, I watched Seven Samurai. It wasn't that great, and it dragged on for 3+ hours. It was made in the 50's, so I let the horrible fighting slide. The drunken 'samurai' and the bald samurai leader were the only two good characters. Everyone else pretty much looked alike or didn't have much of a backstory.
The bandit tactics were stupid... And that old guy's wife looked 50 years younger than him.

Ocean's Eleven was a decent movie, but they were way too slick and lucky.
Thinking about your posts
(and billing you for it) since 2001

Go watch The Magnificent Seven. Its basically Seven Samurai done as a western.
I concur. Great Movie, last of the "classic" westerns before the switch to the spaghetti westerns. The dvd they have out has a pretty good making of special on it to. Even if you don't like westrens, still a great movie overall.

Gydfather had this to say about Punky Brewster:
I even liked Entrapment, and I am pretty sure that movie sucked.
Entrapment owned.
Especially the part where Catherine Zeta-Jones is practicing getting around the laser security thing and arches her ass into the air for a few seconds.
...what?
The first was wonderful. We can only hope the remake doesn't suck beyond all hope.
7 samurais was way too slow for my taste and all most all the charecters to bland

Supposedly they are remaking the 7 Samurai. The first was wonderful. We can only hope the remake doesn't suck beyond all hope.
When don't remake suck? There's no way they're going to do it without cutting out a lot and Hollywoodizing it. Another classic's name tarnished.
It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Tom Cruise cannot be a Samurai. It's like my whole world is falling apart.

The Nae (tm) had this to say about Matthew Broderick:
I bought Ran yesterday on DvD.. they re-did the mastering.. the old DvD of it sucked and now it is much better. I fell asleep though watching it I will try again next weekend. I was just too sleepy when I started. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
I defenitley need to get that, and Rashomon too. I hate being straped for cash...

They're doing a samurai movie with Tom Cruise.Tom Cruise cannot be a Samurai. It's like my whole world is falling apart.
He isn't a Samurai in "The Last Samurai". He is a foreigner who comes to Japan to help stop the fighting between the new Imperial Government and the last few Shogunates who rebel against the outlawing of swords and the Samurai tradition. He learns about the samurai and comes to respect their way, but I don't think he will ever come close to being a Samurai.

He's been learning how to properly wield a Katana.
I'll see it just because I'm interested in the time period. But almost guarantee I'll still have more fun watching Ruroni Kenshin.

RuroUni
But you get points for loving that time era and knowing what Kenshin is.
Good work.
I suggest that you all try your hardest to find a copy of it and watch it. Especially if you like samurai films. Even if you don't, it is one of the best movies of all time in my opinion.

They could always just read "King Lear" and picture samurai instead.

They won't read.. and besides, if they do that, they will miss out on all the blood and guts and head lopping!
Interesting point...not enough lopping off of heads in Shakespeare.

I can see it now: Romeo and Julient 3: Fatal Stars!Romeo: Waaaaaaaaah! I shall slay these ninjas before I woo you more, fair maiden Juliet!
hahaaha I would see that!!!!!!
Grendel was saying that to me though because Ran is actually King Lear done in epic Samurai style. It's a beautiful film. Well.. plus heads lopping and war and blood.. but you expect that of Samurai!
I just think it is a wonderful way to experience Shakespeare. Who doesn't love a Samurai film? Akira Kurasawa won so many awards for the film. I think they were well deserved.
