18 year old girls should not work alone for 6-8 hours at night. Plus, I'll work 30-45mins after my shift ends cleaning up and stuff without getting paid. I'm part time, yet I got phoned today to work tomorrow an 8 hour shift. Then 5minutes later got called again to work tonight, which I said no to. So, They wanted me to work wed-sun. All shifts alone. Keep in mind that I'm part time. I just feel like I'm being somewhat used.
After my 6 hour shift yesterday, I felt as though my toenails were bleeding...
So, should I quit? And if so, should I give notice? I'm totally unhappy right now.
Chances are, they'll try and keep you at either a higher wage, or reduced hours.
If all else fails and he still says "Well, fuck you too!", time for another jobhunt! .. Or you could do commissions. (Kidding!)
In other words, quit. Try to secure work before you quit though but don't stay too long. An unhappy work place is not a good thing.
Also...I'm PM you my number and address...just in case....

*L* I can't get much money from commissions.

o.O
But seriously, have you tried working the family angle? Surely they give you a little more credence than the average Pita employee. And if they don't--they're just using your family loyalty. Ditch em.

*I'm* not family to them.. There are 4 employees that arn't family.

Then, your friend gets to keep the money, while you sue the owners for overworking you and putting you into that clearly dangerous situation. You keep the money from the law suit, and they learn how to NOT treat their workers.
Everybody wins.
Just kidding, don't do this.

Oh, and please keep in mind that I don't *need* a job.
Tell them you're quitting and let them know that it's because you simply can't continue to work like you are all the time. See if you can't guilt them into giving you shorter hours or fewer responsibilities. Something tells me you wouldn't be very happy just accepting more money.

A sleep deprived Mr. Parcelan stammered:
A young girl working alone at night sounds dangerous. I've always been a little paranoid, but hey, you don't want to wind up getting raped in your shop one day, do you?
No, especially since a friend of my was (raped, not shot) when she worked alone at a gas station. She had a stalker. :/

It's a rare chance, but it does happen. And since you crazy Canadians aren't allowed to carry weapons, I'd say it probably happens more often than it should.

It happens to people in their own homes. Nowhere is one-hundred percent totally safe. A girl working alone at night sounds like a dangerous situation.

So I could walk around with a big ol' sword strapped to my back and it'll be perfectly legal?
*seriously considers moving to Canada*

So a long as I have a couple break-away straps over the pommel on the sheath I should be fine.
You can take that sentance any way you choose.
Mentioned you're uncomfortable working alone?
Want to get paid more?
Another thing, you should never feel obligated to work extra hours. A lot of employers try to take advantage of their employees and make them feel that they have to work overtime or more days at a whim. If you don't want to work, just say "No." Don't give an explanation. Just "No." If they don't respect that, its not your fault, its theirs.
At 18, though you may not financially need a job, having work experience for your resume is pretty much mandatory for the future. However, there is no reason to have a job that you hate if you dont need one to survive. Do what you have to either get a more enjoyable job or something else close to what you want to do when you get a career.
As a side note, when you are looking for a new job, do not complain about your current one. Always try to keep a positive attitude.

a knife may not be the best choice for a defensive weapon for a lot of people. it can be taken and used against you if you hesitate using it, especially if the attacker overpowers you.
a tazer or mace would be more useful, imo. thing is, even a gun is only effective if you can pull it out before you get overwhelmed.

Unless it's a really fucked-up, nasty looking knife. Then you can just scare the would-be attackers away by showing it to them.

a knife's a knife. even if you pull a 3" knife.. well, no one wants to get in a knife fight. if you pull it out, pull it out to use it. don't flaunt it. that'll get you killed.

Tell them you don't feel safe being there alone for 6-8 hours or more. Also.. don't do shit for em if you're off the clock, or sont punch out/sign out until you are finished. Clear enough that they're taking advantage of you already. I've always made a habit of not coming in when my job "calls." You don't have me scheduled? sorry.. got other obligations already.

Yeah, I guess. I think though that I'm going to quit today, but take all of my shifts for next week, just so that they don't have to worry about it. It's easier that way since the week after I can't work evenings since the buses don't run and I don't have any other way to get home after like 10.

From working for a family owned business i'd agree with Diadem here. If you're not happy, quit.
