I think the reason for the white border is because of the images the gif is using. Normally gifs are very low res images that tend towards blockyness. And ussually people do not clean up each image in the sequence. Thus leaving the white parts. Most likely it was doen on a white back ground and the person cropped it and erased some fo the white from each slide. However since I don't know quite what Im talkign about, please feel free to ignore this if you're better at uneducated guess than I am =)
