For the girls: If you were 16, would you date a guy who was 22?

For everyone: Would you consider a guy who was 22 dating a 16-year old "immoral?"

I meet a girl who's just my type, and wouldn't you know it... =\

EDIT: We AREN'T talking about sex, baby. Just dating. Dating. No sex. Got it? 'kay.

Once more into the breach, my friends, once more. We'll close the wall with our dead. In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.

Er, *when* I was 16, I dated a 21 year old. I don't find that disgusting or anything to be ashamed of. I'm 17 now (doh).

My parents have been married for almost 20 years... My dad's 65, and my mom is 45....

Yeah, I would, if I liked him enough. Anything sexual would have to be off-limits due to legal reasons, but there's more to a relationship than just fucking anyway, so I don't see what the big deal would be.

6 years is nothing, but that gap narrows as you get older. I'm 28, Kris is 23.

16/22 is a tough split.

At 16 it might seem a little odd but if you feel something important then I would pursue it.

It's a potential legal case in which you'd be pinned without say. Whether it -really- involved sex or not.

-_- I don't like our society, but I live by it. Anybody a year younger than me is pretty much not in the picture of romantic possibility for me, simply because I am legally an 'adult' and over a year younger is just -really- risky. *Shrugs*

But do what ya like, just be careful. And remember... she's still young and probably fickle.

Actually, it's a gray area. In most states, the age of legal consent is 16, and the national age of majority is 18. That means that you can legally have sex at 16, but you can't be filmed having sex (or smoke a cigarette after) for another two years.

Because of that, statutory rape laws really only affect kids under the age of legal consent (IE 15 and under), and are only enforced when it's not a violent rape (which usually falls under harsher-penalty laws). But broadly speaking, if you boink someone under 16, you will be going to jail; how long depends on willingness to participate and your age (in some states, Statutory Rape can only be someone 16-19 years old having sex with someone under 16 years of age, due to the haziness of consent, and anyone 20+ gets the full fledged whammy).

That having been said, a 16 year old is legally old enough to consent to have sex with anyone 16+. However, I don't know that it's a terribly brilliant idea. Broadly speaking, when you get to be around my age or so (24), you start to realize that while it was fun to have sex when you were 16ish, you weren't really ready to deal with (at 16) the consequences that having sex could have ended up leading to (IE a baby, the disruption of your education which is even more vital, the robbing you of your solo "you" time before settling down, etc).

So would I castrate a 22 year old guy seeing a 16 year old? Nope. Would I as a parent want my 16 year old, minor daughter who I am legally and financially responsible for sleeping with a 22 year old who has greater opportunities to leave if things go south, no matter what he professes to feel for her? No, I wouldn't.

If she means that much to you, wait a couple years. Chaperone of some sort = good idea.

But thats just me.

The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. I don't see that much of a problem with it. you are some what close enough that you are within the same generation their for should get along well.

I think the main reason situations like that are frowned apon is cause people believe that they are doing it just for sex, which is of course Illegal.

I don't discriminate...I hate everyone.

Girls prefer older guys. Don't have sex with her till she hits whatever is the age of consent in your state (17 in mine), but feel free to date her. Just watch out for her using you - a common thing between highschool aged girls and college aged boys.

If you feel you two are on the same wavelength despite the age difference and don't mind not having sex 'till she reaches whatever AoC your state has you should be fine. Wouldn't reccomend any sexual stuff before though, giving a girl leverage to sue you = bad idea.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.
