Both are experts in their particular field of combat (Vash being a masterful marksman and gunfighter, Kenshin being a superb swordsman) who do not kill and fight to protect others. Kenshin uses a reverse-edged sword that doesn't cut and doesn't kill, Vash uses a pistol in defense but is known to use rubber bullets and known to deliberately 'miss' a fatal shot to instead incapacitate his foe.
Therefor, one anime series is definitely ripping off the other and the two must fight it out in a deathmatch to decide who can be the pansy-boy who refuses to kill.

But, in this fight, the point is to be the one that does NOT kill. The winner would be the one that dies. Vash wins, so Vash dies. And that would suck.
Of course they aren't just carbon copies of each other with different weapons of choice. Vash dosen't kill because he is try to maintain a philosphy and memory of someone he loved very dearly. Kenshin doesn't kill because he is trying to make amends for slaughter countless warriors in his life. I mean besides the fact that they have very different allies, villians, fighting styles, philosphy to deal with, technlogy levels, and planets, then yeah they are the same.

I don't think a lot of you have ANY idea of just how good Kenshin is.
He is THE BEST.
He beats Shishio while basically dead Kenshin would win. I love Vash, I love Trigun, but Vash would be destroyed.
