A lockpic is legal as well. But if I use it to break into your house then I am breaking the law.

I bet Ms. Rosen's ready to spit nails.

I don't download MP3s myself, but the RIAA acts like a bunch of spoiled children.

Too bad Ms. Rosen's gone. Mitch Bainwol's taken her place as the most hated person in America.

But if you use it to break into a pay toilet, nobody cares.

What azizza said. Nothing wrong with file sharing services at all. Its how people use them thats bad.

They dont need to go after the file sharing services -- Maradon uses them to get new game patches for example, totally legal.

Even though its dancing on thin ice, I use it for No CD cracks. I'm good at losing CD's, and while I have all of 2 games installed on my computer. I hate having to put my Morrowind CD in every time I play the game.

From this point forward, any action on the RIAA's behalf in this case is a waste of YOUR MONEY. Remember that.

I do find that a fair ruling. I especially like the point about copy machines and VCRs (and now also the emergence of DVD burners that will copy VHS tapes), and how its the use, not the machine itself that is to blame. So I'm glad that file-sharing software providers are getting some support in the courts.

I got a thought for the RIAA. Maybe the reason the music sales are down recently is because the QUALITY of the music friggin SUCKS. If I see another studio produced boy band I'm gonna friggin scream and toss my radio out the window. The primped up, trashy pop idols that seem to be pouring out of the record studios these days like the refuse of a flooded toilet have little talent, and the best music these days seems to be coming from the completely indie circuts as well as the alternative styles of music. Enough with the shitty pop music damn.. this is worse than the hair band blowout at the end of the 80s where every kid and his neighbor could throw some crap together in a garage and pump out LOUD volumes of drek that the people would buy up in droves, only to let these kids get fragged on drinking or drugs and end up broke, destitute, addicted and just totally fuxxored.

which is the whole point of the article. RIAA can't go after the software creators, much like cops cant go after the lock pick manufacturer in your little analogy.

Anyone remember the last time they bought an album instead of a couple of songs? It's been 10 years or so for me.

Back when the bands didn't suck, you bought the album because you liked most of the content. Now buying an album for 1 or 2 songs is getting stupid. Back then if you only liked the one song you could probably find it as a SINGLE and save the cost of getting the rest of the crap that you didn't want. Now you don't have that option in general.

And even though they're losing *so* much to piracy the RIAA keeps getting bigger and bigger year-end revenues....

That and because the other stuff on the album was at least as good as the singles and most of the time better because the singles were usually the poppiest crap that appealed to the most people. Here's a hint, popular!=good.
