Go lasik, unless you play contact sports--PRK hurts!

My corneas are cone shapped because of Keratoconis (sp?), thus only contacts can let me see well enough for most things.
Very annoying. Especially since it can lead to your cornea splitting when they get too cone shapped. Happened in one eye already, and had to get a cornea transplant.
Ok, thats now probably too much info about my eyes. In summary, my eyes suck.

Did they change the rules on that? I thought that if you had any eye damage of any sort (including laser treatment) you weren't allowed to fly anymore?

The USAF did a 2-year test with PRK, and has approved it for aviators. PRK lases the outside of the eye to re-shape it, so it doesn't affect the integrity. The drawback is that it a) hurts like hell and b) takes weeks to heal to optimum vision. With lasik, on the other hand, they detatch the cornea and lase the underside. The benefit is that you get up off the table seeing 20/20. The drawback is that the eye doesn't heal 100%, and rough handling (contact sports, combat flying, etc) could detach the cornea again.

My senses are extremely good, for some reason. Touch, smell, hearing, and eyesight are all well above average.
But at least I don't have to wear them all the time. Go me!

You and I have the same prescription, power-wise. Who knows about the cylinder and all.
I also have +125 in each eye with my progressive bifocal.
My contact prescriptions are -3.25, both eyes, although my right eye is slightly worse. [ 07-30-2003: Message edited by: Addy ]

Power/phone lines are what did it for me.
Fuck trees and their leaves.
Hell if I know how thick my glasses are. Not very, is about the only answer I have.
It's not something people hear about.
Don't have my exact prescription handy, though, and it changes nearly every year anyway.

My lenses are very thin...I just plain don't need a prescription. My eyes are rather light sensitive, so when I wear glasses it's almost always for the glare/UV protection.
It's a known fact that blue eyed people are more sensitive to light.
