No, I'll be nice.
I didn't pay $50 for this shit. So SHUT THE FUCK UP.
If you had been reading their MB then you would know that this is what they've taken MONTHS to avoid.

What is "rite?" *boggle*
And a game being good is an opinion. You may say x_game SUCKS SO MUCH OMFG, but someone else may love playing it still. I think the only game almost everyone can agree to sucking is WWII online.

No, but you are right. A poor launch does not mean that a game will be good or bad, only that a huge amount of people are signing up at once.
However, I predict that the WoW launch will BLOW GOATS due to how popular it shall be. Irregardless of how good or bad the game shall be, flooded signup servers are just an indication that a lot of people have purchased the game and are hoping to get online with it right away.

So, you want a game produced in part by one of the largest MMORPG makers on the planet (SOE) that is from one of the most popular geek franches on the planet (Star Wars), and you want to get in this very instant while about ten thousand other geeks just like you are doing the same.
While we're discussing unrealistic shit, I'd like a million dollars, to own microsoft, and a unicorn pony.

In all actuality, if I can't get in at 3:00 AM this morning, then I'll just wait another day. I can wait. I have Enemy Territory. Time is on my side

We can create weapons of mass destruction. We have the technology to begin Terraforming Planets. We've traveled in space. We've Teleported light from one place to another. But we can't handle ten thousand people logging into a game...

Precisely, because we as a species do not place the same importance of you being able to sign up for SW:G on launch day as we do being able to terraform planets.
Would you like me to contact the president?
"Hello, Mr. Bush. We'd like the government to grant a few billion dollars to provide Sony with triple the bandwidth they have now just so some whiny kid will be able to play his game today."

You act as if SOE is poor or something.

SOE also has to deal with EverQuest and Planetside running smoothly too.

True, but not so much with EQ anymore. They already have stable servers. But they also have a very nice income as well. One that is more than able to create stable servers for all 3 games.
Also, they DID try to limit things so that this wouldn't happen as bad as it could. They were successful, it could be MUCH WORSE. Be thankful it isn't.
I just hope George Lucan can't log on today. The ironic humor would be wonderful.

Don't forget they have to pay for salaries, bills, and such.

The money from EQ goes to other things, EQ related things. Like development on the next expansion, Lords of Everquest, and EQ2. Don't expect EQ to support alot of extra costs for SWG.
Plus, it's not just that there's too much load for the login server. It's also a case of thousands of people creating accounts all at the same time. An unusual and unnatural amount of strain is being placed on a few key points of the login server, a strain that it normally won't have to deal with.

Watch your mouth.
You can't say that you weren't expecting something this big, with a Star Wars logo on it, to not be flooded. But since this is related to Lucas' dream, I'll quote from it.. with a slight adjustment:
"Your lack of intelligence disturbs me."

Do I make you angry?
Over 6 or 7 MMORPG launches, I have seen ONE go smooth. DAOC. The rest? ALL ROCKY LAUNCHES.
It happens. Games at launch WILL HAVE PROBLEMS. IF YOU CANT DEAL WITH IT DONT BUY AT LAUNCH YOU STUPID FUCKING DUMBASS.

Sony also has more expenses than server bandwidth to worry about.
Workers. I have no actual knowledge of what the SOE people are paid, but I'd imagine it would be quite a bit.
Taxes. Let's face it, everyone has to pay taxes.
Electrical bills. You think all those servers are powered by hamsters on wheels? Although that would be mildly amusing.
That's just the few I can think of.

I'd like to see you make me. Thanks for contributing to this thread.
Now if you'd kindly go shoot yourself, we can all live a little better.
Frankly, SWG can bomb for all I care, after they took all available bandwidth to allow beta members (Nonpaying users of test software, to which 90% aren't actually reporting bugs, and about 70% of them wont even play at release,) while giving us paying members horrendous problems with our games(EQ and PS)
And Lineage numbers mean absolutely nothing in terms to its popularity, as it most likely didnt have those numbers at release, and the fact that Cyber Cafe's get liscenced accounts for users to play as well.
And Fal, PlanetSide's launch was pretty smooth as well, the only real problem was cruddy network code, and framerate issues.
Ruvyen, you also left out server maintence and updating. When each server for each game consists of multiple machines, that really adds up. [ 06-26-2003: Message edited by: Skaw ]
