I was downloading some movies and a couple of them are in .lzh format. Can WMP run these? Are they virus' or something?

Err, just a friendly reminder - zip formats make transmitting viruses very easy. Go ahead and download the thing but it'd be a good idea to scan your computer afterwards. AVG is a pretty good free tool if you don't have one.

They can contain exploits that would allow execution of arbitrary code on the system....

Just like the issues with WMP and arbitrary code execution.... In the middle of some movies people were putting in exploit code that allowed them to install backdoors (such as sub seven, back oriface, net bus, etc, etc) and disable IDS/Firewalls.... Since the movies were huge no one noticed anything wrong till they were fucked.
