Being a low level newbie rather blows in any game. It's once you get past that and to the higher stuff that makes it fun.

Well there is that horrible period between 25 and 30 were the bastard BG2 offers up no fun...But it does offer you a chance to clear you quest log down to one page

Because there is no Inherent vaulue to holding the PK, and you get a better return on Realm points in BG3, BG1 has so many cause it really the first time for people to RVR, And most stay till they get kicked out....Or atleast that my point of veiw, I have seen the BG2 keep taken once or twice by bored players, you do net a nice EXP bonus for it.
