We'll start with an unnecesary little story:

I got a hold of the game for the first time not all too long ago. Played it a little, tried a few characters to see how they were, got sick of the prologue. Eventually, I settled on a monk. Went through the first act and most of the second one when, just recently, I caught a little virus that trashed my computer. Boom. Didn't really have an opportunity to save my character. Complete format ensued.

So, I started over. This time, I figured I'd try someone a little more spell based, so I tried a rogue/ranger combo. I went through the prologue(again), and at the beginning of the first act, I ran into a little problem:

The game locks when it attempts to load the "city core". Not a total lock, though. The loading bar goes to about 75% and stops, and I am unable to minimize or close the program in any way. In fact, I'm not even sure if the program is still running. I can't get the end-task menu to appear, but I can tell my computer is opening it up and that I just can't see it. Som without seeing it, I open the end-task menu, press Alt+U, then R(Shut down tab, then restart) and sure enough, it works.

I re-install. Same problem.

I am using a completely legit copy of the game, and I update to the newest version before playing. I'm also running the same video card(ATI Radeon 9000 Pro) that I had before the format, with the same drivers.

That's all I know. Or all that I know that I know. Any ideas as to what's wrong would be appreciated.

Also, as an added note, the CD's themselves are NOT damaged. They were used to install and play the game at a friends house since I discovered this problem, and worked perfectly.

Sounds like your "legit" copy, aint so Legit.

Cause well.. that was one of the copy protection things they stuck in. Its a common problem listed at Support. And they only had a problem with the first run of Discs.. so odds are against a legit copy being bad. it can happen.. but its not likely.

Ok, There was a reason I said I was using a "legit copy". It's because I am. There are original, purchased CD's.

Also, using these SAME CD's, I played my original character far into the game. It worked fine.

If this kind of problem happens with illegitimate copies, I'd like to know how it could happen when I'm not using burned CD's.

Sometimes I wonder what the deal with NWN is.

I can get it running. When I installed it, it told me that the vid card, etc, was fine. Processor good. RAM plentiful.

Then I try to run it...everything's in dark shades, so I amp up the gamma. Yeah. Now everything's in dark green shades. I can click on buttons, but the game won't load. Phooey on that.
