Ok, watching a bit of CNN this morning. Prolly gonna be up all day, cause I wanna see those first missile hits later on.

But, I noticed that the soldiers have to pay 30 cents to call home. At the ATT Call Center.

AAT&T is making a big fucking ADVERTISEMENT out of them supplying the soldiers with thier only way to call home.

And they are charging the soldiers for it.

Back in Vietnam, a soldier could write a letter to his wife on a cardboard box, and it was guaranteed to be recieved.

now its 30 cents to make a 5 minute phone call home, on ADVERTISED SERVICE.

What the holy fuck?

Well I'm sure the letter thing is still free.
I don't know how to be sexy. If I catch a girl looking at me and our eyes lock, I panic and open mine wider. Then I lick my lips and rub my genitals. And mouth the words "You're dead."

dude, it costs more than that to make a pay phone call in the US. I'd say they are getting a bargin on intercontenential calls.

These guys are preparing to go to war.

War.

And they have to pay to hear thier wife and childrens voices.

Pay.

30 cents a call isnt going to make a damned bit of differance in paying for it. And AT&T is getting all kinds of advertisement off of it.

And as for the money having to come from somewhere.. how about the military paying for it? AT&T eating the cost? Some of these guys are going to get hurt.

Imagine You are a soldier. You take an AK47 round in the leg. You get taken care of, and want to call your wife, and tell her you're ok..

Sorry pal.. need a quarter and a nickle.

Fuck that.

1. You pay more for a long distance call here.
2. Far as I know, the in-the-field combat pay you make for being shipped over there is tax free. That's right. If you make $100, Uncle Sam keeps his hands off. Granted, you might get shot, but in addition to the combat pay (higher than sitting around pay, I presume) you keep more of it. It'd be nice if they were given free calls (and I imagine if you do get shot you can call from the hospital), but $0.30 ain't dick.

Yeah... gotta love that free enterprise system don't you?

Although I think that charging them 30 cents is wrong, at least AT&fucktards isn't charging them the actual cost of the call... People do wierd shit when it comes to money.

When I was over in Desert Storm, we got free calls back to the states, but only at certain times and there were only a few lines available since it was military phone lines, so you could wait hours and never get a chance a make a 5 minute phone call.

I'm guessing AT&T is supplying a lot of lines at each location and giving guys more time to talk. If someone would have offered us that deal and said we had to pay 30 cents for it, we'd have been ALL over that.

Hell, back in highschool a girlfriend went to Denmark for a year on an exchange program. I'd call her from the school payphone every week or two. Cost me $10 for about 5 minutes.

The call thing is expensive, yes.

However, the letters are still free, as long as you use those special army fold-over envelopes. Everyone in my brother's regiment was issued with a stack of those.
