"Hi, I'm trying to copy my DVDS... I copy them to my hard drive, and when I try to write them to a blank DVD it says 'No Disc'."

"Uh, sir, I cannot assist you with the illegal duplication of copyrighted media."

"Then why'd you put a DVD burner in this thing?"

I have decided we no longer need the state of Louisiana. The danger is just too great.

"Sir, the DVD burner was provided so that you could make your own DVDs from home movies like materials. You can also use it to backup your Word Documens, Excel Spredsheets and other data so that in the case of a catastrophic system failure you can minimize the amount of sensitive information lost."

That's basically what I said to him. His real issue was he was using the wrong type of media.

Well copying a DVD isn't illegal in itself, you are still allowed to make backups for your own use. I keep backups of any of my games (all legally bought) that I think I might ever want to play again since I lost my Moo2 CD to a defective caddy.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Precisely why I never take CDs with me when I go to play golf.

Anyway... this thread was more intended to display the idiocy of customers rather than start a debate on piracy.

You're allowed to make personal copies of any sort of media you own.

Well, you were allowed to until the DMCA passed, anyway.

I had two customers in a row this morning that asked me what sort of film the digital camera we are selling takes.

I have had of 50 come in the last month or so with Dehumidifiers wondering why, O why a device made to take water out of the air isn't doing so in the winter.

If you do a bitwise copy, then you've done nothing wrong.
