America isn't the center of the universe. Every country gets threatened by Iraq. They view america and britan as the evil countries in the world. Unfortuntely it's our prez and their dictators that are in the yelling match, not the citizens. We'd all get along if it wasn't our current authorities slinging mud at each other, and all that propaganda crap filtered through the media. But oh well, what you gonna do. *shrugs* If war happens, then it happens.

Because we didn't finish it the first time, when we had a reason as well as UN backing?

That's a nice opinion. There isn't a single logical precept to back it up, and historical precedence strongly suggests you're completely wrong, but it's a nice opinion none the less.

We are grabbing every god damned protestor who is running through the streets telling us not to go to war, and we are sending them to Iraq with homing devices and address of great political leaders we want them to "reason with". We can kill many birds with a few stones.
Don't like Bush? Fine. You don't have to. But at least get the facts straight. He's not campaigning for genocide. He's not looking to conquer a continent and then the world. He's not bullying smaller nations that don't agree with him by blocking entry into a body of nations (like France).
It's not EVEN about Iraq at this point! Saddam's going one way or another. His weapons are going one way or another. It's not a matter of is Iraq going to be handled or not. It's about political weight to throw around. All these idiots staked their political careers on never going to war and sticking it to the USA. Chirac's one of them, Schroder got elected on the ticket of not assisting the USA in dealing with Iraq. I mean how stupid is that? None of the evidence was even revealed then and SINCE that time we've uncovered illegal weapons that "oops we forgot they were there". But these folks chose early on what they were going to do and now they can't back down. They're digging themselves in deeper. USA isn't winning any popularity contests? Fine. We don't have to.
I've mentioned this before and I'll mention it now: Germany is so dead set against going after Iraq, yet the minute the US talks about taking it's troops out of this country that's hostile to our interests (and it is hostile; it sure as hell isn't friendly) and setting up a deal with another country, Germany freaks out and starts asking why we have to take our military bases out. See, Americans in and around the base spend oodles of money. Lots of money into those local economies. Money that will now go bye-bye.
It's not even about Oil, like so many people seem to think. If it were a war over oil, we'd go force a resolution in Venezuela. Their oil requires less work to refine, there's a LOT more of it, plus it's cheaper to get here.
So the foreign powers' beef can't realistically be about oil, it ain't about committing genocide because we're not going to, and not about our military power because they like having our military in their countries spending money. Hmm. What does that leave? It leaves people who bet on the wrong horse early out of some pissy dislike for us who are now sitting on the political burners for it.
But that's a side point.
Our administration and their administration have a beef? Damn right they do. Their administration has illegal, horrific weapons. We've found the rockets that can be used to carry nerve gas and god only knows what else, we know they're testing rockets with illegal ranges. We've shown evidence to the UN now. They've violated the UN's own resolutions time and again...what else do you need? War is a horrific, terrible, penetrative, life-changing event. But that doesn't change the fact it's also necessary sometimes.
But the necessity of war doesn't make it right for any dumb fuck to go around with that Nazi Swastika Bush=Hitler shit.

I have no idea what you just said, but it sounded a lot like a far-fetched conspiracy theory.
I was remarking on your comment that without our respective governments, we'd all get along fine. That's a fairy tale. In fact, it's the polar opposite of the historically demonstrated truth - without governing bodies, in a world of limited resources, people break down into tribal behavior and generally end up slaughtering each other. What?! You listen to the ramblings of a crazy person!?!
No but seriously, it was just sort of rambling, and when i realized i was making no sense (as does most creatures in this world)I decided to leave it there for comidic value. So it had nothing to do with conspiracy theory, and fairy tales.
I've always thought political debates resembled more of children on a playground, standing on opposite sides.
"yer a poopy head!!"
"I know you are but what am i?!"
"nuh huh!"
Only in this case, these children have arsnals!
Ack! I hope as long as we all don't get blown up, then i hope we take out that iraq bastard.
Or is that a conspiracy theory too? [ 02-26-2003: Message edited by: madolin ]
Personally, I'm *only* against the war for Iraq at this point because the US is willing to go to war, and probably will go to war, even if it doesn't get UN sanctions. If the US gets the OK, then I say is ok.
Why am I so ready to change my opinion? If the US doesn't get ok, that puts *us* as the agressor. We become the country making the unsanctioned movements because we disagree with their leadership. Its no different then if the US were to take over Mexico, if it were to have an evil dictator we decided we didn't like.
Yes, Sadam is a bad bad man. Yes, he's done horrible things to his people. Yes, he deserves to be assassinated. The end does not justify the means though. We can't barge in there breaking UN rules to take out him out for breaking UN rules. That would be hypocrisy at its finest.
I wouldn't mind the protesters as much if any of them actually had a point besides calling the US a second Nazi germany. Which is of course blatently idiotic.
Personally the only person we can call hitler right now is Sadam. I have reasoning for this:
A) He wants to commit complete genocide against an entire nation of people
B) He willing kills his own people to accomplish his own goals
C) He has infact invaded neighboring countries
D) He kinda looks like a arabian hitler

Your logic is flawed in one very big way.
The UN has absolutly no authority over the United states. The UN is at best an advisory council. We can, and should, tell them to fuck off.

And by the same logic you're stating, Iraq can tell the UN to fuck off. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't a good part of why the US wants to go to war because Saddam has basically said "fuck off" to the UN and built WMDs? Why is it wrong for him to say "fuck off" to the UN, and not us then?

The reason we want to get him out of power is because he is an insane dictator who has proven he will use any and all weaposn at his disposal against his own people and any country he doesn't like.
The UN provides us with a bit more backing in this. But if they continue to act up then screw em.

Welp, the US has plenty of reasons they've used for wanting to go to war. Terrorist ties to rile up the US people is one, even if that's shaky reasoning. Owning WMDs is another reason, which is how the US wanted to get US sanctions. Now Saddam is just a bad bad man and we should attack his country to kill him, which is no different than a lot of other countries housing dictators.
To be honest, my really only anti-gov't belief in all of this is that the US can't get their damm reasons for going to war straight. They flip-flop on the reasoning that suits them best at the time. I wish they'd just pick a reason and go with it.
Anyways, when it all comes down to it, we're going to be using any and all weapons at our disposal to attack a country because it is ruled by a dictator we don't like because he'll use any and all weapons at his disposal to attack a country he doesn't like. IMHO, this is sheer hypocrisy on our part.
And for Dens, us saying fuck off to the UN endagers the entire world also. Who knows what weapons Saddam holds and where he'll use them? Maybe he'll fire some missles off at the French for some reason or another, despite them being anti-war. With UN sanctions, at least there's an agreement this chance will be taken. Without UN sanctions, other countries may suffer because the US rushed into a war.
And remember, like I said I am NOT totally anti-war. I realize there's perfectly good reasons to oust Saddam. I see no problem with the war if the UN gives it its ok.
If we were to find out the location of a large Iraqi armored division then we would send in aircraft, bomb it to hell and back, then send in ground forces to mop up.
If Sadam was to find the location of one of our ground forces and he was able to, he would probably just drop a Chemical or Nuclear weapon on thier heads.

Oh yes, you're not exaggerating at all. Saddam has a few hundred thousand nukes stored below the sand out there. He also plans to send a nuke missle out to kill each individial American soldier. Yup. Ok. Besides, since when has Saddam *definitely* had nukes anyway?
And you're trying to change the point also. Please, prove to me how American going in without UN sanctions is not hypocrisy on our part.
