Let's say you were dying slowly. Now, as you're dying you see a hooded figure with a scythe approaching you, and you realize that it's Death who's come to claim your soul. Now, here's my question....

Would you try to cheat him, thus averting becoming deceased? And if so, how?

I'd bribe the Death of Rats with a cookie to talk the big-guy out of claiming my soul.

Just my own personaly philosiphy. It is the fear of the unknown that people hate. If we face death without that fear then there really is no problems with it in my view. Death is no different that birth. You are passing from one phase of your existance to another. Why fear it? Face it. Embrace it.

I'd kick him in the groin. When he informs me that he has no balls to kick (being a skeleton and all) I'll giggle and say "Hey, you said it, not me."
I don't know how to be sexy. If I catch a girl looking at me and our eyes lock, I panic and open mine wider. Then I lick my lips and rub my genitals. And mouth the words "You're dead."

I'd hug him, go along peacefully... maybe ask for a few extra minutes to say goodbye.

Do you have any idea how tough it must be to be Death? Tearing apart families, pulling loved ones away from each other for untold years, sowing pain... bringing rest, yeah, but death is often seen as bad... poor guy. He either must have no emotions at all or be completely insane by now...

Piers Anthony.

If you want an even better look at Death, read Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, specifically "Mort", "Reaper Man", "Soul Music", "Hogfather", and "Thief of Time".

Piers Anthony's Death was stylish...but I found him somewhat two dimensional. Too human.

In the "Soul Music" animated adaptation, Christopher Lee (Saruman, mister deep voice) did the voice of Death.

Also, look for Vertigo/DC comic's "Death: The high cost of living". Based off of the Sandman comics done by Neil Gaiman, it follows a teenager that's thinking of killing himself, and what happens when he runs into the living spirit of Death. This version of Death is female, and quite different from the normal take on the idea.

I actually liked Gaiman's Death, Dream, and the rest of the Endless. They were cool to start, but then it started getting too full of itself.

Did like Death's explanation of her purpose in the grand scheme of things, especially the bit about the end of the universe, "I'll be the one there to put the chairs on the table, stools on the bar, and turn the lights out before closing the door behind me"

Or something to that effect.

It's not like I have a slight (and probally morbid) obcession over death.... Not at all....

Although Gikk's sister has me beat... I only have a watch (that needs a new band), a figure and a poster... the bitch has all kinds of shit.

I'm going with the Jack (http://jack.keenspace.com) version here... hence why I think it would have to suck to be death. Death needs a hug.

Personally, I would try and take Death's scythe and kill HIM with it. Yeah.

That or see if I can get him to look the other way, and run away from him as fast as I can.
