We're going to be using MySQL and Java for the implementation, and therein lies my question: Where could I find a MySQL-related program thingy to screw around with before I actually have to implement this damn thing?

It's not something people hear about.
2nd off- you can download mysql for free from www.mysql.com there is both a windows and a *nix setup, I would recomend the *nix if you already have a box, otherwise, windows works fine.
I think a good learning tool is a mysql based message board. You can learn alot of techniques by poping the hood on one of those puppies. [ 02-10-2003: Message edited by: Blindy McBlinderson ]
Thanks for the link, Blindy.

A hash table in C is hard to beat as a quick and efficient way to store and retrieve data.
Double linked list with master control nodes... spanks the shit out of a hash table.

yes, but math geeks like implementing a hash table, wheras logical programmers prefer linked lists...
No, Really. Bite me.

Naimah stopped staring at Deedlit long enough to write:
Linked list is just pointers in a hash table if memory serves.
If you ignore the fact that you don't need pointers to make a link list.

Then enlighten me. Explain what a linked list is in more gory detail.
And if the answer to how his LL doesn't have pointers is that "java doesn't use pointers"... I shall guffaw. Guffaw, you hear me.
