My mom was making me search around in her closet for a ring she lost about two years ago (why she'd put it in the top of the closet, I don't really know)... and I was messing wit da flashlight, all searching 'n stuff, when my light fell on... A SWORD! Two, actually. Mom said that her dad brought them back from Vietnam when he went over there in 1968, that they'd been hanging on her grandparents' wall for awhile, and they gave them to her because they were her dad's and they thought they were fugly now.

K.

So.

Can anybody tell me anything about these? (I just took pictures of one, 'cuz like... duh! they match!)

k luv u thx bye~ ^.^

If they're VC or SVA issue, they're probably worth a boatload.

Kinda doubtful, though; they look awfully artsy.

The blade looks Korean or Chinese. Bott prefered a blade that flared like that near the tip.
However the design on the Saya looks more contemporary. Perhaps from India or Pakistan.

It also looks difficult to use.

Chinese Jiann Longswords.
More a saber than a sword as you can use them for fencing.

Either that or I don't know.

I'll purchase them both from you for a reasonable price.

I'm serious.

Yeah, I had that saber thought too. It doesn't look like it'd be terribly effective as a sword.

I dunno... they're not technically mine to sell. I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind getting them off her hands, but that'd still take some heavy parental negotiations on this end.

Let me tell ya pal, butter knives are as effective as swords these days. It's not like you're gonna go around hacking someone up, anyway. Who cares if it's functional?

Ever thought about getting them valued? From the stamp near the base I'd say that they were genuine, although perhaps not for battle.. but simply ceremonial.

I can try, I suppose. I don't know diddly squat about swords or where to go for that sort of thing. I guess the yellow pages would come in handy or something. o_o

An antique store may give you a valuation for free, as long as you call in.

An actual antique dealer would charge.

Could be real. Being 1968..and out of the war. I'd check with someone dealing in war memorabilia.
