Ok...went to bed last not after restarting my comp, because I had crashed it earlier didn't feel like scandisking and waiting...came back today, go to log on to my profile and it's corrupted. Fuck. Loads into a temporary profile, no viruses found with AVG that was quite recently DLed, so...scandisk again. No errors on either hard drive. Try the profile again still gone. Go to do a system restore to yesterday, and it hasn't saved in 6 days for no reason. I've done a good deal in that six days, and I'd like to get it back. Any way to do this?

It won't erase everything you did in that 6 days, it will only restore things related to Windows to the state that they were six days ago. Or, to the best of my knowledge. You may have some DLL issues, you may not, but you can just repair whatever doesn't work, probably.

Mainly movies and other Dls that are new, so that will hopefully be ok. I shall try the restore now...and with luck I shall return.

Are you sure? I thought system restore completely erased what you did until the last time it was saved. At least thats how it is with my ME.

I'm pretty sure, yeah. The amount of harddrive space the later would require is just kind of insane...

I haven't used it for a long time, though, so I really don't know for sure.

Suddar is right. Just did the restore and have something I downloaded yesterday still alive. Thanks for the help.

Your profile is still there, you just have to browse into it in Windows Explorer. Then copy the files you need from the old profile into a new one. Or, you can back up your files to CD or over your home network (if you have one), then revert.

My profile got eaten twice by this PC in the last 8 months (since I bought it, too busy to build it myself ). Both times it happened because I left a floppy in the drive (both times when my brother wanted me to print something for him that he brought on floppy ). The profile gets renamed to
C:\Documents&Settings\YourName.bak\
So anything you have in there you can still get at, so long as you have administrator rights on the machine. I didn't want to revert or reformat, so I rebuilt my profile. The hardest part is getting it to stop making temporary profiles and build you a new clean one, so you can move stuff over.

And, of course, you don't need to know this anyway, because you solved the problem using Suddar's advice.
