They broke playing more than one EQ on the same machine!

It's "not possible" when they put in a windowed mode, but I've been doing it for over a year now with EQW(which, of course, they broke with the patch).

It's called "don't fucking upgrade Direct X if your card isn't even supported by a modern game." It's common logic.

And there's ofcourse the argument that EQ doesn't -need- a modern card to be played, considering EQ graphics in old mode are sucky, and Luclin hasn't added much more except needing a gig of ram to store all the damn fugly textures.

Must be nice to have a job and no debt.

Unfortunately, some of us have things we are obligated to spend money on, that isn't for our personal enjoyment.

The only reason I have a geforce 2 instead of a voodoo3 right now is because I have a very generous friend.

Times change, technology moves forward. If the games I want to play get too far ahead, then fine, i guess I don't play them.

That's no excuse for dissing people that can't keep up with technology. They have their reasons.

At this point, I dont really feel pitty for people with Win95 boxes and Voodoos.

You can still get a GF2 for a very affordable price. I had to save all through the GF3 era just to buy a GF4 Ti4200, but even that was affordable on a budget.

Check your college book store too. Some have deals with Microsoft to get reduced prices on Windows.

I don't really feel to sorry for people who cant afford a copy of Win98 or a GeForce 2MX. Why? Not because I have a kick ass computer, no. Because myself and my friends have pooled older computer parts together and made 2 fully functional games capable of playing most new games with little to no lag. I'm sorry if you don't have friends as cool as to do something like that, there's not much I can do there.

I mean, if you want to play games you have to keep upgrading. Eventually what you have WILL get outdated if you don't keep upgrading. Kind of like consoles. The NES only got outdated by the SNES, which got outdated by the N64 and PSX, who got outdated by the PS2 Xbox and NGC. If you can't upgrade your hardware you don't get to play the new cool software. Sorry, that's the life of a gamer.

What's this thing do?
That would be sooo cool if it wasn't going to hurt us.

Eh, I phrased wrong.

I was dissatisfied with the fact that people still use said OSes and cards, yet expect the entire game to cater to them (Remember when they said you need Dx8 to play, which 95 can't support, and the massive bitching that caused? Yeah.).

You want to play the game, that's great. You don't want to upgrade your computer, because of lack of a job, or whatever, okay. But don't expect me to bend over backwards and cry a river out of my anus feeling sorry for you.

DirectX 9 only has like, 3 card-types that support it fully anyway. The fact is, if you don't know shit about a computer, don't fucking do anything your software doesn't suggest.

It reduces problems and you don't make a total fool out of yourself when you run into a problem doing something you shouldn't have done because you don't know how to do it.

Onboard video is a videocard chipset on the motherboard, its generally subpar compared to their AGPport sister cards.

I think the issue here isn't that it is like

"Damn, I need to upgrade my computer to play EQ2"

it's more like

"Damn, suddenly the computer I have been playing this game with for the past couple years is suddenly not good enough even though it is still the same game"

I mean, the first one I can understand, but yeah, the 2nd one is pretty stupid

And that's what the main arguement was the last time. Except then, it made SENSE that they did it, because they were releasing an expansion with an entirely new graphics engine. But now, all they are doing is upgrading DX, but not actually CHANGING the game.

Which means people will actually have a reason to bitch, now.

Boy, won't you look stupid if the change to DX9 makes all the crappy frame rates go away.

Actually, they haven't done anything but test all cards officially supported by SoE (The radeon/GeForce series) as well as processers and OSes (98, ME, 2k, XP, I believe).

Odds are that Dx9 came out and people asked SoE techsupport if they should upgrade for EQ. They thought this was a good question, and decided to do some testing.

So far everything works great, no random crashes, etc. I won't personally upgrade, since I'd have to reinstall video and sound drivers.. again, but I found it nice to see that they are taking a stance against people with not a good enough computer.

And I see ABSOLUTELY no reason for anyone to bitch about them upgrading the engine. On every box (Even the old Jewelcase for classic EQ) there is a little thing that says "System requirements subject to change". If you don't want them to change, well tough luck.

Not really. I'm just taking the stance of these people. My computer, though it is out of date, still meets EQ's system requirements, even with DX9. I hardly play as it is.

Yesterday's hardware is largely restricted to yesterday's games. You don't buy an N64 and then complain that it doesn't run Gamecube games.

EQ is and continues to be a modern game, as it's perpetually in development.

Frankly you're lucky EQ worked on your crusty old OS and your outdated hardware for so long.

The original EQ's system requirements called for a "DirectX compatible video card".

DirectX is constantly changing. If your video card does not support DX9, then your video card is no longer a "DirectX compatible video card" and therefore no longer meets EQ's minimum system requirements.
