No ifs here, its impossible to please every gamer. Simply put, not everyone will like to, say, shoot things, or go on a long involved quest. BUT in my opinion, the closest we have come to making a game all like is Tetris.

Puzzle games have something that appeal to a broad audience IMO.

But you CANT please everyone

It will be all genres rolled into one, with the ability to focus more on one genre depending on how you play it.

Other than that I have to concur with Fal.

Gah, I'm a gamer, and I detest Tetris... it seems less like a "puzzle" and more like pure, unadulterated boredom.

...hypothetically speaking. Say everyone DID like this game.

Or, another way to approach the question, what could you put into a game to make it so everyone likes it?

It would involve rally cars, all sorts of guns, jets, stealth, espionage, gears, mechs, sweet weather and lighting effects, samurais, ninjas, swords, hitmen, orcs, snipers, army rangers, good music, nukes, tanks that can disguise as trees, jetpacks, cloaking, skydiving, parachuting, submarines, bombs, plastic explosives, scuba diving, doritos, a three headed monkey, dragons, snipers, prostitutes, car jacking, money laundering, iron chefs, asian women, windex, white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, mp3 file share programs that work like audiogalaxy, chocolate, dance clubs, sky scrapers, snowboarding, cargo pants, etc.

I'm liking the sound of this.

Hmmm...now, how do we encorporate all of this together?...

I say make a game that is like Morrowind, but with the whole world acurately detailed to the SMALLEST, TINIEST detail. And you can do whatever, it has living, breathing working people and the most complex AI ever. You're just a guy or a girl, start off in the middle of your city and just...play.

You would be able to do literally anything you could in real life.

While I understand what you are getting at with this thread...

the "perfect game" wouldnt be this -- to some people it would be too much like real life. To some it would have TOO much to do.

As I said, no matter what, hypothetically or no, you cant make the perfect game

You would need to include a "level of automation" control. That way a person could choose to manually control any of the following:
{1} All actions of one person, even down to the level of breathing rate.
{2} One character's basic actions, to the point of searching rooms, dressing, etc., plus the more complex actions.
{3} One character's complex actions, such as going to meet people, accomplishing goals, working a job, or going on trips. Allow for {a} flexible AI driven dialog, or {b} rigid multiple-choice dialog.
{4} A small group of people, say 3-6, to the level described in {2} or {3a} or {3b}
{5} Allow the character to either choose his/her profession in advance, or have it evolve based on his/her actions. Allow professions ranging over all areas, from homemaker to corporate drone to executive to spy to criminal...
{6} Control entire groups of people, for situations like a massive corporation or an army. Allow either a level of control as shown in {3} or an AI driven (or multiplayer and AI driven) controller which lets the player dictate only group actions (as would be provided to those in {5} who set their profession in advance).

And yes, you would need a VERY involved AI to provide a full world, and also to accommodate multiplayer, where people would constantly try to override each other.
