The term son of god is simply because he was born of the pure seed of god in mary. Read the bible children is full of wonderfully silly and inventive stories.

In the Hindu faith, once total knowledge of the world is attained and the illusion (maya? mana? It's called one of those) is broken, then you join with Brahma.

So Mog is right, and actually becoming part of a god is more a Hindu belief. Buddhism, as I remember it, was more of a self-realization type thing.

I think it's actually Sikhism. I'm not too sure, I'll double check later.

And isn't it less joining with a god per se in Buddhism than becoming part of everything that's around? As I said, it's been a while, but I thought the general idea was less of worshiping a god and more elightening yourself until you reach a higher state of being.
