New Antarans (New Orions):
Major genetic modification, ahoy!

Well, it looks like an anorexic 13 year old who would be last choice for a football team after my the wad of lint I have in my pocket. Coupled with the mangled arms, it looks like someone ran him over repeatedly, undoubtedly cackling with glee all the while. And then there's the face. Gah, it's like he got pounced by about 8 facehuggers and they're all trying to find room to fit their fiddly bits.
Yup, there's a reason I'm not buying MoO 3.. [ 12-13-2002: Message edited by: Sakkra ]
The new Antarans (New Orions) broke away from the Hegemony, became the good guys, and modified their genetic structure to look more like the old Orions so the lesser races would trust them. There is method to their.. er.. "pussification".
The new bad guys are called "The Harvesters", which were developed by the old Antarans to wipe the annoying New Orions out. Their pictures are being kept top secret until release, but they're supposed to be pretty terrifying.
I'm already not buying or even playing MoO3 as a means to express my displeasure with some of the changes, but I at least want to know that the roots of the game aren't being totally shredded for this version...

Remind me again why you give a crap?
We've been over this before - if you hate it so much, just pretend it doesn't exist
FYI, MoO2 changed an awful lot about MoO. It was sad to see things go that way, I know
Instead of releasing MoO3, they could just release MoO2...again!!
Then nothing about the game will have changed and Mooj would be happy!

Instead of releasing MoO3, they should have made Master of Magic 2... But I digress.
My biggest gripes, aside from the removal of my two favorite races, which isn't really relevant here.
-The plot. "Ok guys, sorry about the trying-to-kill-you thing. We want to be friends now. Now let us lead your Senate and play nice, ya hear?"
-The limited influence deal. If I wanted to watch NPCs play the game for me I'd... oh yeah, I'd fucking buy MoO3!!!
-Rantz Hoseley is a stupid fucker
Predators? lumpy-ass seven foot tall humanoid rastafarian aliens (they got dredlocks) with a face that looks like an anus from hell.
Granted, that's not the best of pictures of an Antaran, but I love how people will define an entire concept by one picture. Hell I was willing to give that freak-ass playmobil Link a chance until I saw a clip of him running around doing things.
Grow up.

The only thing that was actually taken out of MoO1 when MoO2 was released was the universal planetary defences. And Y'Know what? I did miss those. It made planets easier to defend, even if it was a convoluted method of doing it. I'd rather have a planet with a couple thousand missile bases than a planet with one Ground Battery and One Missile base.
Pretending something doesn't exist doesn't work really work, Y'Know. I'm pretty sure people don't like getting shot, but they're not gonna get better if they pretend it didn't happen.
And Deth, are you referring to me in your comment? I've had problems with MoO3 since it was announced what it would and wouldn't contain. That picture is just one of many things I've got issues with in the game.
I'm not only bitching here, I'm writing letters to Infogrames too. Will they do anything? Maybe, maybe not, but at least I ain't just sitting back and bitching on a message board.

I was commenting on people who take a look at a still image from an animated scene and say "omg gaem suxxor because picture look bad in bright light" when they're probably the ones who like Aliens and Predators. Yeesh

Why not just quit expecting an identical game and get along with the idea that Infogrames simply doesn't agree with your idea of the way the game should be made?
I was pissed when I heard planets couldn't be blown into asteroid belts (although less so when I found they could be roasted into balls of glass) and that there'd be no Psilons or Elerians.
So what? I deal. You should get over the fact that the game isn't going to be MoO2.5

See, here's where we've got our problem...
It ain't that I want the game to be identical, it's that I want the game to have some actual strong relation to the previous ones, not a weak ass plot thrown together that makes very little sense.
As a consumer, I don't have much right in a game once it starts development, even less once it's gone gold, but I have every right to let the company know where I stand with how I spend my money.
I might be missing out on one hell of a game, I accept that. I won't be buying this game, nor will I be buying the Gamecube's Zelda. And I plan to tell both companies exactly why they don't have my money. This isn't some piss-poor "I won't buy it for a month, that'll show 'em" boycott. This is a "You ain't getting my money for this product, ever" boycott. And for that reason, I should hope that maybe they listen to me.
If it makes you feel any better, you can take comfort in the fact that I'm going to have to sit here and probably feel envious if the game gets good reviews from you guys.
You're willing to give up a potentially great game, specifically SAYING you are, because it doesn't fit your nit-picky expectations? I don't know, man. I'm trying to follow you, but it isn't working. No offense, but it just sounds pretty dumb from here.

You haven't even given the plot a chance. I'm willing to bet you haven't even glanced at the backstory they've written.
It all boils down to them not making the game the way you want them to make it, and I'm sorry, they'll live without your $40.

I'm not saying that the game sucks, I'm saying that I don't agree with how the game was done.
Yes, I'm anal about what I do and don't like. If I don't like how something is done, I don't go along with it. No matter how good it is.
Yep, it makes things real difficult at times, but at least I know that I'm not contributing to keeping something the way I don't like.

I may be mistaken, but I am fairly certain that I argued here that I read the backstory they'd written and it was made up of ass and fluff. If I didn't say it here, I said it on another message board somewhere. I've read the plot, and after reading it I wanted the time back that I'd wasted on reading it.
I've pulled better plots out of my head when I've had writer's block.
You won't like this game that you admittedly might very well like, because you don't like it?
You sound a wee bit too much like you're trying to convince yourself not to like the game over some absurd matter of principle, your criticism of the backstory (which I actually found quite good, a bit hasty in some parts but overall very good) a knee-jerk side effect thereof.
Final Fantasy 8? Gosh, it's a Final Fantasy, it must be worth my money! (Maybe not the best example, but hopefully you get the point... I would have used Metal Gear Solid 2 for this example, but unfortunately I didn't do enough research into the game before I bought it... That's where I made my mistake)
I never said that I wouldn't like the game, I said I wouldn't buy or play the game. What I did say that I didn't like is the backstory, parts of the simplification of the controls, and the fact that several races have been removed. Some screens of the game are looking damn good, and I've freely admitted that I may regret not getting the game.
My criticism of the backstory is the very first thing that I read that started me down this path. Not only was the plot rushed, but it was very poorly laid out. I remember having this exact same conversation with you a few months ago.

Clearly nothing, not even reality, is going to sway your blind opinion in the matter It could be the most true-to-the-original sequel ever produced and you'd have no idea because you won't even TRY it. You even ADMIT that you don't care whether it's a good game or not. [ 12-14-2002: Message edited by: Maradon XP ]
The thing is, not everyone cares about what I care about, just like I don't care about things that everyone else does.
You don't need a 3D card to play this. Yup, that's right, none of it is in 3D. What's that you say? It is? Well, ok, it is, but not true 3D.
Yup, that's correct, it's the return of the voxels! There are no polygons in this game, and it uses 1998 graphics. The recommended spec is a P2 300 with 128MB of RAM.
I've been reading over the forums (including replies made by people working on the game), and it appears that this is what they call "brain candy", made for the die-hard strategy fanatics that still run P2's.
Fake 3D battles! Hooray?
.......
Aw, who the hell am I kidding, I'm still going to buy it.
Y'know, I liked it better when it was hand-animated.
Hey, I found it funny.
