Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite. - John Kenneth Galbraith

I Agree.
I must ask Snoota if I can join his Commie program!
Story time kids! Back in the mid 1980s, Lebanon was pretty much in a state of anarchy. Beirut made Dodge City seem like the Vatican by comparison. It was a dangerous place for foreigners, who were getting kidnapped left and right by various militia groups. One of the militias got the "brilliant" idea to kidnap some Russians, figuring they could extort some cash or at least some spiffy weapons from the Soviet government.
Upon hearing this a few member of the local KGB glee club went out cruising and snatched up four Lebanese, one of whom just so happened to be the nephew of the head of the militia that grabbed the Russians. The Russians sent one guy back in a body bag along with the nephew's ear and note stating that if the captive Russians weren't released, unharmed and immediamente, they'd kill the remaining hostages and send the nephew back, postage due, in a series of small parcels.
The kidnapped Russians were back on the street an hour later.
The Russians really enjoy sticking it to people and they excel at the rough and tumble stuff. They may have gotten a little soft since Communism went away, but I still wouldn't screw with them.
TI CYKA.
However.. this is CLEVER! I laughed..
PS Call: Your story is scary =( hehehe

Agienst some kinda law... I think...
Sides that, we'd have a whole lotta animal rights activists screaming about using pigs...
Then the human rights activists screaming about not giving them a proper burial...

Against several laws... the families of the victims would sue the government for whatever, animal activists wouldn't do jack shit about it IMO, but the human rights activists would put up the shitfit of the year...
I wish we could be bastards like Russia, because you be tough but fair and eventually you get a rep that you ain't to be messed with

hard technology rock painfully thought these words up:

I can't think of a better thing they could have done.

so true, and tahts why America is the best, and worst country in the world.

SHHHH DON"T SAY THAT!

Aanile stopped staring at Deedlit long enough to write:
That gas they used was *nasty* shit..
...Pray tell, how was it?
As for the Russians, I have to say...
Told you guys so, .
I've heard that story a few different times Call, Uber.

And I was all like 'Oh yeah?' and Aanile was all like:
Any gas that's powerful enough to kill people, rather then sedate them like they had planned is nasty =(
They were trying to knockout the rebels completely, as they probably didn't know if the rebels had taken any sort of drugs to make them more immune to common doses of sleep gas.

Those people were on the brink of death to begin with. Putting them to sleep is what happened, but they didn't have the strength to ever wake back up.

Aanile wrote, obviously thinking too hard:

You know, some people who go in for surgery don't wake up from the anesthesia, .
I already explained this in the other thread, nothing like that is easy.
The calculations and predictions required to successfully sedate someone yet keep them alive have to be VERY exact. Body Weight, metabolosim, concentration, overall health, duration of exposure to the gas, amount consumed, etc. all take a part in those calculations.
On a crowd of that size, it's incredibly difficult to save them, yet sedate the majority of them.
Killing someone is very easy, and not that far from sedating them.

True, true, true, and true...
BUT! There were several other things to take into account.
1- The Russian government refused to tell care workers what gas was used. If they had told them, the care workers would have been able to treat people much faster had they known what was used, so they could use an antidote to counteract it.
2- The hospitals and care facilities were prepared for 200-300 people max, they should have realised that there might be a need to treat many, many more.
Estimates are that they could have saved at least 50-75, probably more, of the people who died from the gas, had the workers been more prepared (IE : Known what kind of gas was used and what agent would counteract it, and had they been more prepared for the numbers they received).

Death of Rats had this to say about Pirotess:

Cruel and unusual punishment.
And the reason why the US doesn't engage in campaigns of assassination and the like is because there was a bit of a screw up the last time we got involved in something like that. I'm sure there are unofficial assassinations that go on, but never in the numbers they do for, say, Israel.
And it's a shame.
