Since I am in dire need of funds, I am looking to open commisions on the DM site ASAP.

My question is this. Price range?

I do two types of work, now that I am more comfortable with my PC art skills anyways, for two different sets.

My old style is done on poster size, 24x32 Heavyweight paper, in medium lead, clear acrylic sealant, full greyscale shading.

Exmaples I've posted before, but here they are for reference. http://members.aol.com/CynFaeth

New style is of course the PC work. Those are usually 8x10 Prints, heavyweight photograde paper, full color, comic style artwork. Everyone has seen these in various places around here. Typically includes the Wildkat pictures, or like the work for Conquest.

WHat would you pay, or what do you think these are worth as a functional commodity?

I wouldn't know about the poster-sized, but the guy that runs Restless Visions does 8x10 size prints I believe and it runs around $70-$100? (I think, I was considering one before) for a print from him.

Those are just portraits, of course. But for the quality of artwork that both you and he do, I find it a fair price.

if it helps at all, I've been willing to pay nearly 100 bucks for a painted miniature for our Rune Quest campaign. I think that would fall into the same category of merchandise.

Woody charges 30$ an hour for his comissions, I don't know, may want to charge by the hour as well.

Just a thought.

Fae, In the past the two drawings I have done cost 80 bucks each. One is the one Hagan of Restless visions did, one was done by Eileen

Both well worth the cost, IMO.

I love those pictures, Fae...

They're great (and I know who atleast one of them is, ).

And yeah, I have to say $100, though you might want to start off with something lower, to draw people in, and get more work to display on the site...

Honestly though, I'm not a good person to comment on this, as I've never purchased anything like it, or paid much attention to the purchasing of art (except like, the sculptures my parents collect).

let's see being an ameture.. I usually do my prices like..

$5 for every ink picture, additional $2 for each extra charicter.

$10 for colored pencil piece, additional $5 for each extra charicter.

$20 for watercoloured piece, additional $10 for each extra charicter.

now, this is were it get's tricky.

$45 for a single, no back grouned computer coloured piece. $20 each additional charicter.

For back grounds, that can get a bit more, depending on how intricate the background is.
Like if you want one done with a castle with spires that twist, and a full moon with stars and clouds, a vally with a forest.. you get the idea, that can run into the 100s. Mostly because of the time it takes to even draw such a thing, and colour it.

S&H is going to be extra, when I find out how much it'll cost.

But, yeah, that's pretty much my commission rate, if that helps you get an idea.

Whenever someone decides to bother me for art, I don't charge, as it takes be about twenty freakin' minutes to do it . But I agree with Aani... charge depending on the piece, how hard it is, the materials used, size of the piece, such and such. If it's a simple, small anime drawing without ink, it would be much less than, say, a poster-sized time-consuming piece like the ones on that site.
