-It requires Fortitude saves to resist, always Fortitude, only Fortitude.
-The DC of the poison depends on the severity. Powerful poisons have higher DCs, and usually worse effects. The reverse is true for weaker poison.
-Technically, poison deals damage to certain abilities. What kind of stat and the damage depends on the nature of the poison.
Most reduce Strength, Dexterity and Constitution, because they attack the body's immunities and systems. However, there is no reason you couldn't create a poison that gives someone terrible skin problems (Charisma draining) or clouds their minds (Intelligence draining).
-Poisons can have many different effects, and it is essentially up to the DM to decide what effects the poison may have, if it's not already listed (many vermin with poison, for example, already have their effects outlined).
How to Create Your Own Poison
1. Decide the nature of the poison (does it damage stats? Or does it have a different effect?).
2. Decide the strength and potency of your poison. Is it powerful? Is it weak?
3. Depending on the nature and strength, decide the DC. Usually, poisons with more exotic natures have higher DCs to reflect the body's lack of immunity to it. Naturally, stronger poisons have higher DCs.
Aleria has many exotic posions and animals, some with hilarious effects others with not so nice ones. Examples are the aphrodisiacs (sp?) that have hit Nevia, and the rotting poison that is currently effecting Berren. I use a buttload of toxins to effect my players at barious points for various reasons. I just dont flood them with em, cause well, always being poisoned can get old. They have encountered all of two instances where poison was present, in all the months we have played.
Point is to have fun with em, but make em fair. Everything is easily managable depending on the DM behind the curtain.
