The stuff around the sides of the core I'm not too worried about, but the fact that the stuff is still in the AMD grooves worries me a little.
Do you think I should use some sort of bristled brush (IE : Toothbrush) to try to get it out, or should I just leave it, use the thermal grease, and be done with it?
Biggest reason I ask, is that this is the first AMD processor I've used, and I know that heat is an issue. I'm just making sure I don't screw anything up
And before anyone suggests it... purchasing a P4 and Mobo with equivalent speed to my Athlon XP would have cost me over 80 dollars more when I purchased it, so this may be a pain but it's worth 80 bucks to me

Yes.
Well, the question was if I should try to use bristles to get it out, or if I should just make do with it the way it is now. But thank you for your input

That's because you're a weenie and a putz.

Mr. Wilams obviously shouldn't have said:
Does it really matter if there's a little bit of extra tape?
According to Waisz, yes. The tape isn't heat conductive to the thermal grease I'm using. Since the whole point of the grease is to fill up the little notches and grooves to ensure that the heat sink is cooling the ENTIRE core, the tape may just be interfering.
Then again, I wouldn't worry all that much about it because my processor is running at all of 114F, which isn't doing to bad for an AMD chip.

I personally wouldn't worry all that much about it. Yeah, it might be a little better if you got all the tape out, and I don't see why using a tooth brush would damage it after having cleaned it with a razor. Then again, I wouldn't worry all that much about it because my processor is running at all of 114F, which isn't doing to bad for an AMD chip.
Welp, I'll give it a try.
BTW, anyone know of a good program that runs in the background to monitor CPU temperatures?
Why. in the hell. would extra tape that was on there before make the slightest bit of difference?

I know, it isn't even that much.

Verily, Maradön² doth proclaim:
I could understand if you were putting new thermal tape on you wouldn't want any bumps or bubbles under it, but you're using that white goop, what sense is there in removing the tiny bits of tape that are left?!
thermal tape conducts heat. Thermal grease CONDUCTS HEAT!!!!!!! so he'd rather have the heat take the easy route through the grease, instead of having to fight through thermal tape. Getting the die clean, then greasing it will give better thermal conductivity than just leaving all the tape on there, and then greasing. Better conductivity=better cooling.
No, Really. Bite me.

I'm starting to become a bit scared of you, and myself, because of how we both think. :\
