Now, I revisit thier web page, and (much like Glitchless did to Dawn) the information on the game seems dramatically downplayed. A single information page and a simple FAQ have completely replaced the news, forum, and elaborate FAQ system they used to have. An estimated release date is nowhere to be found.
Who here thinks the game is a legitimate project? What makes you think that way?
Who thinks it's a hoax? What makes you think so? [ 07-12-2002: Message edited by: Maradön² ]
The game was boasting too much. It's nice for developers to have dreams, but they have to be a little realistic as well.
Why does that make you think the game won't be published?
Its not gonna hit shelves -- at least nowhere near what it was going to be like originally.

What were they promising that was so unrealistic?
It wasn't so much "unrealistic" as it was "time consuming and not possible" because of the lack of developers they kept stumbling in to. It was like, every month someone got laid off and the game got pushed back even more. [ 07-12-2002: Message edited by: Skaw ]

Well that doesn't mean much. Just look at the pre-beta pictures of EQ, and the things Verant was promising.

They are trying to put way too much into the game. Basically it did what Dawn did...everytime someone asked 'will this be in it?' They said yes. People said they wanted ____ they said yes.
Trying to create the perfect game isn't something that can be done, they were trying to cater to everyones needs rather then create their own game.
Balancing issues...if hell freezes over and the game makes it live, no way will it be balanced. Developers can barely balance a couple classes at once as it is now. Look at dragons, there were already "dragon guilds" being made 2 years ago for this vaporware game.
How would you like to play against something that could just fly by and drop you from 3000 feet (as they boasted on the dev boards)?
Too me they just seemed like a Dev team with stars in their eyes. They need to get more jaded with the gaming industry before they are ready to produce anything

You mean the stuff they're just now getting around to implementing?

That and it was looking like you needed a really fast super computer to play it...
They released system specs once, if I recall, and the minimum video card for the current version was a Geforce 2. (people were pissed because of the steep requirements at the time, lol)
I think the game still has a chance. It doesn't look like Artifact has anything else on the stove at the time.
What I think happened was when they tried to create all the stuff they were promising, they hit a wall. It was either too hard or impossible, so instead of facing the frothing hordes, they're retreating into their shell and screaming "WE PROMISED NOTHINK!" while desperately trying to find a way to make this work.
I WOULD like to see it happen though. Dryads look far too interesting to pass up. I'd like to see a game that puts in a tiny winged thing and does it right.
And thus, PvP madness would ensue?

I have no doubt it will hit shelfs. Actually, I am looking forward to my great grand children getting to play it

I think Horizons should have done what NWN did...Use a very solid game system as the base, with rules for everything written in, then come up with the basic gaming environment, but encourage others to make up their own environments.
I think that when the time comes, and this is me being a whacko here, games like EQ will collapse because there's just too many people. EQ has been remarkably fast in getting out expansions, if you think about it. For new companies without huge backing, that sort of constant development would be impossible, and big companies don't like blowing big money on things they're not sure of.
Easier to offset things to the players' responsibility rather than keep it in house.

Yeah, except I was very, VERY dissapointed with NWN...
I think NWN was a step in the right direction, though. I'll be looking forward to seeing what comes down the line.

They had a good concept but utterly failed to utilize it to it's potential.
Frankly, the game plays far too much like a much slower-paced Diablo 2 with more elaborate character creation, and a more boring item system.
What I'd like to see is a game like Morrowind with the NWN peer-to-peer architecture.

Wow. I thought I was the only person in the world who believed that.
After playing NWN I wanted to play D2x to hack things up :-(

Same here, but I'm seeing it in bits and peices in various games. Someday, when the various bits have been worked out, someone will throw them together and make a good game with them.
I would rather they take it slow and make small steps, than see someone try it before everything's ready and make a dreadful game that gives those ideas a bad reputation.
I would kill to be able to play NWN in first person, with EQ level emotes, though.
You'd have to program things like a horizon view and a sky and all...
