For some reason obviously related to user-friendliness, Win XP decided to save all the network share passwords I used and automatically use them at start-up.
Now, whenever I try to log on a user that has something else than read-only permissions, all I get is this fucking NetBIOS crap error that says I can't use 2 different users to access the same share.
A big Fuck You to Microsoft for ever making Windows XP.
maybe?
'User-friendly' usually translates into the OS doing something without telling you. Where as win2k is basically a server OS, much more control.

I considered switching back to Win2K, but there's too many hardware fixes in XP that I'd rather not lose. I ended up banning the user WinXP automatically used to replace it when XP prompted for a password.

More like "User error because the OS assumes the user to be too stupid to fix his own problems so we're not going to tell the user shit and make default choices that we assume will be in the end user's best interest but ultimately cause these types of issues to occure."

I don't get it, if you're supposed to be some sort of "power user" why do you complain so much about having to go in and change these things?

You bought a watch that was set to the proper time the very first time you took it out of the box?
Yeah right.... try another one.

I find that hugely ironic, as it almost proves Maradon's point better than his own compairison.

there is your damned forced-on-you-with-no-way-to-change-it option.
a freakin checkbox, checked by default. now let me see if i can find out how to change that option once it's been checked.... [ 07-09-2002: Message edited by: Dredije ]

If it cant be changed, it cant exactly be an option, now can it?
XP = luv.
2K with all the service packs and stability is good, but the amount of things i like about XP outweigh it.
Like the fact that XP doesnt go all gimpy on me, it takes other companies software to make me crash out, and only then when it forces me to use fullscreen mode.
BTW.. Heather Graham inna silver Miniskirt = luv.

Do you really think I'm stupid? You can't change it afterwards.
Supposedly unmapping and disconnecting the drive and remapping it is supposed to do it... Yeah, it was unmapped, but it still reconnected automatically, and still couldn't specify the other username. Since I did make sure the option wasn't unchecked, it was either a bug or an unchangable setting. I had to resort to ::dun dun dun:: linux to make it work. i mapped to my own shared directory (\\127.0.0.1\shared) and have yet to find an option to change this crap....
*stares down win XP*
don't make me regedit your ass....
p.s.-linux rules! i'll be up in that again tomorrow once i install it and do some configuring...got a new HD today. now if only transgaming would get winex to work with EQ...i mean, i can already play UT and RTCW in linux... [ 07-09-2002: Message edited by: Dredije ]

I have never seen a watch sold that was set to proper time. Ever.
Physics dictates that it's impossible. Once the watch is moved from a position of rest it is no longer in proper time. Typically the watches aren't sold in the same timezone they're constructed in and I doubt that all the watches in the world are made at exactly midnight, which is the normal 'default' when the watch is initially powered on.

Unmap it, remap without checkbox, only thing I can come up with.
And no, I admit Win XP has some interesting features, but with no depth. I disabled the task pane because all the built-in options it suggested didn't have nearly the depth of what specialized apps could do...

by task pane do you mean task manager? i'm not sure what you are talking about here.
Now a HUGE screw-up is Windows ME. A big Fuck You to Microsoft for that!
I heard Windows 98 is still very stable...

ME was when i went Linux like bambi running from the fire. (excuse the bad analogy, but it's late for me and i couldn't think of anything better)

Wasn't it less stable than 95? There was even a program to lay the 95 shell over the 98 one.
Although I have to admit it's a whole lot more stable than ME.

Well it was the advice that my very computer-geekish friend gave to me since I have Windows 98 on hand. It's late at night so my mind is getting out of hand. I think he runs 95 on his computer...

Common tasks. I'm sure some of them are quite useful, but to me this was a big-ass thing that wasted 30% of my window space for sparing myself 2 clicks to what I already knew.

oh, you mean that damned thing that hides stuff in the drop-downs.
it took forever for me to figure out how to turn that off in office XP. freakin grrr

You're backwards on 2 things.
(1) 98 was the more stable of the 2. It was 95 with additional fixes and patches.
(2) The "shell overlay" you're talking about is "98 Lite". That was when some guys figured out how to splice a few things to get rid of IE 4.0 completely from the system.
