The guy shows a little concern about his children, and suddenly he's a badguy. And I'm inclined to agree with him about America's educational system. Just a little.

Bungholes.

Er this is a joke, right? What did he do anyway?
He slipped a pipe bomb into a mail box.
Read the friggin' article. I read like the first sentence and I know what's going on.
It also looks like he's worried about safety. Which I can see. I have a 3 year old. I'm worried about him. But he could just as easily get hurt in something mundane as some terrorist attack or as the victim of a crime. Life contains risks. Just something people have to live with.

Since he's a celebrity, a statement like this sounds to me a bit like a publicity stunt. But maybe I'm just cynical. [ 07-08-2002: Message edited by: Lyinar Ka`Bael ]

They're his kids, and short of a case of neglect/abuse, they're wholly his.
*Tom Cruise looks at Mel Gibson... then Russel Crowe... and then at Hugh Jackman... And so on down the list...*
"Hmm..."
Actually, generally speaking, it's not even about the teaching them morals, Lyinar, Society has a great effect on your children, regardless of your parenting (Unless you like, lock them in the basement).
I would, on safety principle, as well say that with Australia's crime and disaster rate compared to America's, probably like to put my children Australia as well... Not to sure of the Education numbers, but that's probably a point in Australia's favor as well... (Not like Cruise's kids probably go to public schools anyway though, :P)

I know. It's just like I said. I think it's a bit irresponsible. They'll grow up how he teaches them, plain and simple. There are influences around them, yes, but they don't have to follow those influences. If he doesn't want them to, he should teach them not to. If he doesn't, he has no one to blame but himself.
I find it impossible to believe that you can seriously say that a person's environment and society has no effect on them.
[Edit]: Fixed a very serious typo, , Thanks, Artt. [ 07-08-2002: Message edited by: Lashanna ]

I know I do, that's why I'd want my kids to stay in America.
The article was rather ambiguous about Tom's reasoning for sending his kids out of the country, but I think it's probably a safe bet to assume it's because he's got his head firmly planted in his ass and is only choosing to see the worst in people. [ 07-08-2002: Message edited by: Maradön² ]

That's your choice, but it enforces my major point, . Which is that the environment and society will effect the child.
That is my hypothesis...

Actually... His references to their safety also seems to imply, to me atleast, concern about crime/terrorism/whatever...

The article had some vague references, but you don't send your kids to austrailia because you're worried about crime. Good luck finding a crime-free-terrorism-free country.

Yeah, whereas the USA was originally founded by religious fanatics and pennypinchers forced out of their country because they scared everybody, and look how WE tur--oh wait.

Yes, it was, sort of, so it's obviously full of rapists and thieves and murderers now, I guess, eh?
I was raped by Abbigail, and Pved tried to kill me last week,
Georgia was established by debters, yet, I'm quite financially secure, .
As for finding a Crime Free country Maradon... It's not Crime Free, but it's got significantly less crime... The fact that Penelope is from Australia probably doesn't hurt his decision making much... [ 07-08-2002: Message edited by: Lashanna ]

G'day mate. May I point out our superior healthcare system, lower crimerate, lower population density, and superior welfare system?

yeah your low population density is because of the Outback. Not exactly the most hospitable area.
Besides you've spawned people like the Crocodile Hunter. And Giant jumping rats. And drop bears. and boomerangs.
