Homeworld
This game is beautiful and one of the few games I actually seem relatively competent in.
I'd bought it quite a while ago now and simply forgotten about it until now but I am glad that boredom drove me to pick it up again.
The gameplay is excellent, the controls pretty intuitive, the music sublime and a great storyline.
I'm really enjoying it so far and recommend it to anyone to have a go, it should be pretty cheap by now; I saw it go for £9 the other day so, if you're bored, go pick up a copy 
The expansion is a must, btw.
I couldn't imagine before how much of a difference moving in true 3dl ike that makes
BE SURE to build six...uhm...ship stealing frigates...I forget what they're called...and steal three of them.
Two reasons: They're more mobile, and a touch more powerful than the ion frigates you can build, and if you don't capture them, they'll rip you a new one.

salvage corvettes, and ship stealing is my favorite tactic of the whole game

Ny copy came with A seperate music cd, I have it in my Stereo and use it to wake myself up every morning.

Actually, I love this game too, it just got so hard, I stopped playing due to frustration.
