I jumped from a GF2 Ti450 to the GF4 4400 and all I got as a boost in EQ is that I can leave particle density turned to High and not care (but god damned that causes an assload of visual spam on raids.)
Did you get 3d glasses with yours too? Can you get yours to work at all? :\

Yeah I am running EQ in 1600x1024x32 with all graphics options maxed out and I did not ecperience one moment of slowdown tonight. I was in Luclin almost the whole time and even with 20-30 people right around me fighting and casting I had no slowdown. Used to be it would turn into a slideshow at that point.

You're not missing much 
The effect is freaking awesome when it works, but it doesn't work in all games, and in 98% of the games the 3d drivers do work with the game crashes. lots.
That's lopsided as hell.
I'm running in 1024x768 (damned 17" monitor) and it's been glass for a while.
I still manage to get chop a bit when im in a zone with 150 people and we are raiding something big with 50 people in the immediate area, but, otherwise im fine

The SB Audigy is only $80 and it's more or less top of the line.
As far as the video card goes, I suggest the Geforce4 4400. Expect to pay around $250.

I was using a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP on my old computer until I bought this Geforce 2 64 MB Ti to put in the new computer. It was a highly noticeable improvement, especially with particle effects.
You can imagine how much better it ran once I put it in this PC, the 1.5 ghz P4 with 512 megs of RAM. Shadow Haven was almost butter-smooth; whereas I could barely walk around SH on the P3-700, 256megs and the V5.
But, several patches ago, EQ was reduced to that level of framerate again, even at 1024x768x32 bit. 
It gets SERIOUSLY boggy if there are 150 peeps in zone, like NK in the Good vs. Evil war...
More color == more resources.Either that or you can go out and buy a GF4 as well.
