I accidentally crahsed the East Commons and had to have the zone rebooted when I ran one of these the day I left GMing 
. I spawned about 500 undead at once, which the players loved (except for the newbies who were selling things at the time) but somehow the zone got overworked and went poof. Man, was I embarassed (and on my last day, too

They still happen, I'm fairly certain they are triggered events now. They might always have been.

Then my guild was grouping in GD to go on a few lvl'ing raid type things, and they were attacked by a few of these except they were like lvl 50ish.
Now that you mention PoP I got to thinking and these would fall into the story as well. They were colled <title> of Durn and they kept shouting about how Ralos Zek and Durn would destroy us all.
