If I stopped at the Don's house in FFVII, I could say Cloud is one weak little bastard, too. It's a matter of actually playing the character well enough to get power.
And having beaten FFVIII, I can safely say Squall gets quite powerful.

No doubt Squall would be strong towards the end of the game, hell, Rikku would be strong near the end of the game. Squall wasnt really "weak" he was more "average" if anything..
The words I have been missing is "compared to others"
I could call Tidus a cheap 5$ whore compared to everyone else, and be right, because well.. even if he did 5500 damage at the Thunder Plains, everyone else still does 9999 damage. In my game, Tidus does 1100 damage, while Wakka does 2300, Kimari, 1500, Auron, 1300-1700 (and they're all leveled the same) Rikku, 300, Lulu, at a low 23, and Yuna around 500.
Are we 100% sure that this is a game and not some sick joke ...?
Read a review in Game Informer. They had some pretty good things to say about it. I'm looking forward to it.

FFX is a poor, poor argument...it's all in how you travel the sphere grid. My Rikku had more HP than anyone but Auron, and my Kimari did 5000+ damage.

My Kimari did 9999 damage every hit. When I had to fight my own Aeons, Yuna set 'em up, and Kimari knocked 'em down with one hit. I didn't have Anima or the Magus Sisters though, I might have to re-finish the game now that I've got them. They might take him more than a round to kill. 
During the end game, I used three characters. Yuna, Lulu, and Kimari. Kimari would Hastaga them all, then either attack or use that Guard+Block skill to guard the women. The ladies would doublecast Flare and Ultima, and maybe finish off with an Overdrived Bahamut summon.
The biggest whimp in my party? Wakka, with Auron and Rikko a close tie for second.
FFX can vary too much from player to player to make it a good game to measure with. Which, I think, is one of the cool things about it. [ 05-31-2002: Message edited by: Palador ChibiDragon ]
