For my question: How in the hell do you create boxes with stuff in them? I mean, boxes with stuff in them that you can't just open 20 times over for 20 different things. Argh.

Right click the place where you want to put your starting point, menu'll pop up, you can use that to set it.For my question: How in the hell do you create boxes with stuff in them? I mean, boxes with stuff in them that you can't just open 20 times over for 20 different things. Argh.
The only way I found: put in a switch. Basically, you give the box two pages, on the first page, after you get the item, do a change switch event, and change a certain switch (say, number 17) to "on"
Then, have the second page "event condition" set so that switch 17 is on, meaning that page then activates, and have the message "The box is empty" on page 2, and don't give an item.
Switches are absolutely critical if you want to make an RPG; there's no way around them if you ever want to be able to enter a certain place twice, and have different things happening.

As for "how do you end an event?", you just stop typing on the event's page There is no "end event" command, they end automatically after the last thing on the list. Unless, of course, you have the event trigger as auto, which will make the event repeat over and over again. Then in order to stop it you need to use a switch, like I mentioned above.

Well, first off, I'd probably make an event with the box icon, if for no other reason than the box can then open. Also, before I can trouble shoot: are you using RPG maker 2000? if you're using 95, I can't help you, I've never tried it.
If you are using 2000, though, there's a few things to check. First, what is the event start condition (located to the right of the graphic on the event editor)? It should be "Push Key" for a normal "walk up to it and hit action button" box.
Second, what Position is it on (located beneath start condition)? You want same level as hero, so you can't walk on top of or under the box, and so that it's easy to know when to hit the action button on it. Also, make sure the "Event overlap" checkbox is unchecked, I have no idea what that does, neither do any of the FAQ's I've ever seen, so just avoid it, it could cause unnecessary problems.
Third, double-check the "Add item" part of the event. Make sure the change item is on add item, not drop item, and make sure that you're not using any of that variable stuff, that's much more complicated, you just want the "Fix" item, and the "set" number
Fourth, make sure that you added the little message "Got potion" or something like that, otherwise you could be getting the potions and not realize it, since the chest doesn't seem to work. It sounds silly, but it took me a good while to realize that was what I was doing wrong the first time.
After that, you'll need to play with switches so that the box doesn't just repeatedly give you items. I can explain that, but it's a much longer talk, so if that's not your problem, I won't go through that. [ 05-17-2002: Message edited by: Chalesm ]

OK, the chest/switch thing worked well, especially since I have about a million things which need to use it (multiple boss battles = not a good idea.). Now for an even more idiotic question...How in the 'ell do you change battle music for boss battles?
change the system BGM for battles, then after the fight switch it back
under the event things its on the first page, right side, fourth from bottom. Just click, select what you want to change, then select what you want to change it to
