I'm not making this thread to "start shit" or anything; in fact, the exact opposite.

With the new cracking down on warez, I have to ask before somebody gets hurt--are ROMs (I mean, old ones, pre-PSX and the like) included under this new rule? I mean, you've never really cracked down on discussions about them before, but you also didn't include them in your rules update--while you DID include (and thus exclude) mp3s. I'd ask in a PM, but then only I would know (plus anybody else who happens to ask, I guess), and that sorta defeats the purpose.

And another reason I'm not sure...even though Nintendo (I think Sega too, but I can't confirm) have said they'll no longer crack down on pre-64 ROMs, they're still technically covered by copyright law. And besides, on this board your ruling goes, so they don't matter.

Thanks.

If you can't buy it from the company (ex: nintendo) I thinks its good and legal( I could be wrong.). I too heard that nintendo didn't care about pre-N64 systems (well not gameboy).

Gamebody isn't really "pre-64." It still exists and games are still released for it. And it's generally backwards-compatible. So all the old games can still be played. So yeah.

Personally I believe it's warez if someone loses money somewhere

Thus I don't count NES/SNES/Genesis or any earlier ones as warez in any way

And the companies stating "Sure, knock yourself out" helps too

I don't mind downloading the ROM of final fantasy 1 for nintendo, because I could not find that in a store if I wanted to

*backs away from the warcraft 3 beta*

Not sure what everyone else says, but I hate warez personally, but ROMs are fine in my books

Edit Me fail english? That's unpossible

Well, my books too--but I was just wondering if the same applied for Drysart's.

Yknow...just outta curiosity...

But, um, what is Rejected considered? It was provided free to us, and to my knowledge, the only way to obtain it is on DVD by way of www.bitterfilms.com.

I know, but I'd honestly just like to avoid another situation like this if at all possible.

Roms to old systems are ok. Roms to current systems are not. Gameboy is an old system. Gameboy Advance is not.

It got its name for a reason.

I just know I wasn't banned when I posted a link to Daggerfall.

hmm, interesting question...

If I own a CD of a band and I download different versions of a song on it does that mean I'm stealing? The band still gets their cut...

bootleg recordings of concerts that were never released on any type of media? (this is the one that made Metallica popular wasn't it?)

Oh and since I pay royalties every time I buy a CD-R/RW does that mean I can burn stuff to CD and feel good about myself?

hmm... I have very few mp3's that I don't have CD's to back up and the ones I do have are either labeled throw away, one hit wonder, or to-buy. that was the original purpose of mp3 wasn't it?

All in all I'm glad I don't have to, say, buy a car like they would rather I buy music. "Uhh, what does the car look like?" "You'll have to buy it and find out..."
