I know NWN has been hyped muchly, but, um... what's it all about again?

Who cares?! Beta = Free. Free stuff = good! Ask Maradon!

No, wait, don't. He tends to get ripped off when it comes to free stuff

Neverwinter Nights is, at its core, D&D online.

It's the ability to create your own tabletop campaigns online and run them therein.

Octember 3000004, last I checked.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

Don't make me hurt you.

Beta = Searching for bugs. Squashing bugs. Searching for more bugs.

Beta != Free game. Beta = Helping company make the game kick ass.

Now, Stress tests are another beast alltogether -- they ARE for people to play.

But, well, a regular beta-test is to find bugs. If ya go into it simply looking for a free game and plan to drop said game if you don't like it, dont sign up for the beta.

This coming from a person who has tested various games -- Trust me, its not easy, even though it seems it. Sure, ya get to have some fun, but its not like buying the game off the shelf and not having to worry about finding bugs for the devs and such.

OK, Ill shut up now.

You realize the first phase of beta testing is just compatibility, right (I think)? I don't think you'll be able to actually play the game if you get in on this stage; playing the game comes later.

Assuming it isn't so buggy that you can't get the right conditions for using your "'sploits."

Actually, if I remember correctly, thats one of the stages of alpha testing -- almost always 100% internal.

Beta test is compatibility to a degree, but alot of betas are more game balance and such, while looking for bugs, but not as much compatibility

And Fal, I just checked.

Here are the four beta stages:
Technical Beta (compatibility; no gameplay)
Modular Beta (testing of single player elements)
Intergrated Beta (multiplayer testing)
Game Balancing Beta

Then I stand corrected --

Though, the first stage, sometimes the second and third, are in house only. Thats where I was getting my info from.

And it would sort of be against the beta tester's Non-Disclosure Agreement to confirm, here, that they did get accepted.
