Whoa. Who would have thought pico had something as advanced as COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS? Thanks

I still wish I had vi, heh. Dum host linked "vi" to pico. ugh.

If the system administrator made a symlink from vi to pico, find the real vi binary (It's probably vim, and it's probably under /usr somewhere) and then from your home directory type the following:

ln -s /usr/path/to/vim my-vim

To run vi type ./my-vim

Should work like a charm.

I believe you're thinking of Peco, who was the best damn BoF character ever short of Momo.

hehe actually I never touch VI unless I have to... for little stuff I use pico or pico -w. For big stuff I use emacs.

VI is just... somewhere in the middle... not really worth it for big stuff and not really worth firing up for small stuff. unless of course you have to edit configuration files having booted from the CD... that is one redeeming quality of VI it doesn't need any outside help to run.
