What do you like?
What do you want to try?
Best. Space Sim. Ever.
If you ever get it, try using the Snow Nymph Queen's Ice Scepter on the Sylph in the land of the dead. Very, very interesting.
Archers Roxxors!

In the second mission, you're asked to get that "useful looking pod" "over there." The game offers no explaination, so I try different things and look at the newbie guide that comes with the game.
I figure out that I need to dock with the pod after some screwing around. But then I can't figure out how to get it onto that platform-thing that brought me to the supply dump. I've tried undocking near it, but it just knocks the poor thing around and helps nothing. I am very confused. Need help. plz.
Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns
This game #%&ing rules. And all I have is the demo version; now that's saying something.
Believe me, if I had the clams to spend, I'd buy the full version, with associated expansion pack, in a heartbeat.
Homeworld
Another game that proves how cool single player RTS can be. And multiplayer is good too, but I was too floored by the seamless mesh of story and game, sci-fi and mysticism, to enjoy it fully. I can't recommend this game highly enough; buy it.
If you're more of fond action games:
Max Payne
Actually, I think you already have this one, don't you?
If you don't, you should. It's great, and... well, it's great.
Oni
Built in the style of your average sci-fi cop animé, Oni blends over-the-shoulder action gaming with Tekken style melee fighting. It's a little quirky to get used to, but once you are used to it... oh, baby baby...
If you like first-person shooters:
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Awesome multiplay with a cool single-player game packed in for free
Sadly, when it comes to the PC community, I'm not really up to speed on new releases, so I can't help you too much.

Freespace/freespace2 are very good as well.
Renegade's MP is fun but choppers will be better.
Jediknight2 will be very fun.

Are the Baldur's Gate games any good? Is there a way to totally customize the classes and stuff?

two of my favourites right there
For adventure games, you can't go wrong with the Monkey Island series. They're cute, cartoonish games, but can be quite a challenge and they're hilarious.
Arcanum is definitely a good game. I've played just the demo, and plan on getting my hands on the real thing very soon.
As for action/shooters and the like, I couldn't tell ya. I only like RP and puzzle
Lyinar Ka`Bael, Piney Fresh Druidess - Luclin
Homeworld, X-Wing Alliance, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Daggerfall, Max Payne, Septerra Core...Umm, I can't think of any more right at this moment...
Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat are great Half-Life Mods too
