Does it take place after Universe, or during it?

its just dumb, Tenchi Universe alot better, atleast thats what I have to say.

It's not "Dumb" but rather "Different". It may not be as good as Tenchi in Tokyo, but it's not dumb...

It takes place after the Universe series. Which is not that hard to figure out if you saw the first Tenchi in Tokyo. I liked Tenchi in Tokyo. Yugi was really cool,and the story had a surprise ending.

Oh yeah, I did see the first episode. They don't make many references to Tenchi Universe, and why isn't Ryo-Ohki big enough to carry Ryoko and the girl with the blue hair. But oh well

Obviously you did not watch either show enough. It's ANIME, and her name is Not the "blue haired girl" it's Sasami SASAMI!

All the Tenchi series have different continuities.

Tenchi in Tokyo isn't a sequel, it's just a different take on the Tenchi story.

Once more into the breach, my friends, once more. We'll close the wall with our dead. In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.

All the Tenchi series each had different directors(or writers? something like that) which is why they are all different. They each have nothing to do with any other one.
I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

Kiyone's hair is most of the time colored shades of green, though a few times it has been blue and even black.

Actually, they are making a new Tenchi in Japan that is the sequel to Muyo.

Anyway, my ranking of the Tenchi's:
1)Muyo
2)Not far behind, Universe
3)About 8 laps back, In Tokyo

The one thing that made the series imho is Reo-oky (Gah I can't spell) the cabbot that can change into a spceship in a pinch. Probably isn't finiky at what foods you give it. 1. It sucks.
2. It isn't related to Tenchi Universe or Tenchi Muyo.
3. The art sucks.
4. The story sucks, I mean come on, really.
5. There's less fighting.

I like all anime just about, or at least I'll watch it once. The only thing I really can't stand is Yugi-oh it makes my head hurt and my eyes bleed. Everyone has likes and dislikes,so be it.

BUT I hate watching anything on cartoon network unless I really really have no choice. If it's not uncut then to hell with it.

The others I haven't seen or haven't seen enough on to comment on. Anyway, all anime on Cartoon Network is evil and should not be watched unless you're like me and you're too poor to buy the DVDs in which case I feel sorry for you, for you must live a life of watching anime cut and edited so that it's targetted towards 7 year olds. :P

For the most part, I was disappointed with Tenchi in Tokyo. As it got nearer to the end though, and more was explained, I found that I liked it alot more.

Yugi was a tragic villan, and more believeable than Kagato (sp?) from the other two. Once you realize what she's been through, and why she's doing what she does, you feel sorry for her.

Yah, the art wasn't as good, and the plots for the individual epps were not as good. But the overall plot for the series was the best of the three.

Those're watered-down versions of Amuro's Gundam. Same general principles, but different armour, payloads, engines and what not.
They were less effective than the original model, but better than the average Zeon suit. However, "Gundam" came to be used for the two breeds interchangeably. Which I spelled wrong.
