My school had lots of big, dumb jocks.

Which all cried exactly the same when they got their shins bashed by a hockey stick.

Probally a report dumper that MS uses to compile a conveinent file so that they can have all the info about your machine when they request it....

You agreed to that EULA.... gotta live up to it...

dumprep runs on boot if your system crashed without shutting down on the run before. It takes the dump file generated by the kernel and generates a crash report from it.

It's not a part of Office XP, it's part of Windows.

See, I just tried removing this from my msconfig file, but it seems to wanna run every time I boot up now. If I turn it off, it turns itself back on.

Thanks for an answer though, Drys

If you look in MSINFO32, under Software Environment, Startup Progams, it will list everything running in MSCONFIG Startup Group and the registry location to remove it.

Just deleted the key from the registry, rebooted.

Its back in the registry.

Thats why I think its some odd sort of virus -- It wasnt there before, it is now. If I try to get rid of it, it comes back. My computer is NOT crashing each reboot either, its getting shut down properly. Windows doesnt give me "The system has recovered from an error blablabla and doesnt show me anything on bootup, it just looks like it boots normally.

Can you boot into Safe Mode okay?

If this only appeared after installing OfficeXP, have you tried removing OfficeXP?

Dumprep is related to a registry error btw. The key must be located and deleted physically from the registry to be removed permanently.

One thing you can try is booting to command prompt only and run a "scanreg /restore" and trying going back to an older registry (before you had a problem)
