This is my first time applying for a job. I wanted to get some opinions on what to put for "desired salary." I'm still in high school, I won't be working much, and I have no previous job experience. So maybe I should just ask for minimum wage. But then again, if they pay more than that, they'd just give me what I asked for, and argh! this is confusing. Any ideas?

Put the highest the possible, and when they say "this is outrageous!" you negotiate from there.

Never ever ask that low....

But for the most part it depends on industry since you have no prior job experience and are still in high school.

It would behoove you to learn what is a good entry level salary for that industry and that position so you can request a proper level and look knowledgable in the field.

I'm making twelve grand a year in retail, still in high school. For a little frozen yogurt shop?

I'd go with negotiable.

Yes, I am a lawyer. No you can't sue them for that. Shut up, or I'll have your legs broken.

These folks are right -- put negotiable, or "going rate."

Just make sure you figure out what the going rate is and don't let them screw you just because it's your first job and stuff.

I ALWAYS leave it blank. Then once they offer the job...Then I am in a better position to negotiate

I like to put "More than you can afford."

Employers always get a crack outta that one.
