Topic: Someone explain to me the big gripe about Legends?

Ok I dont' get this.
They are offering a different server with some added options at a higher price.
And all people can do is bitch about it.
This will have ZERO effect on anyone except the people who wish to go there..
SOme complain about not getting the features for 10 a month.
But look at it this way.
If I want a car I can spend 19k on a New Ford Taurus, or I can spend 35K on a new Thunderbird.
The thunderbird is a much nicer car with more options and therefore will cost more.
You pay more, you get more.

So what is the gripe here?

People seem to think it's going to affect the regular subscribers in a big way. Others don't want to pay for something their not getting. (Whiny bitches!)

The same problem people had with EQ Gems.

They think that their service is going to decline because all the service will be at Legends, in an effort by Verant to force them to the "Premium" Servers.

That dumb whinefest a while back when Gems came out made me want to cry. "OMG, Verant could be balancing our classes, and fixing bugs, but instead they're making dumb games!!!"

People never really realized that Gems is a program that a basic programmer could probably make in his coffeebreak (that may be a bit of an exaggeration).

The problem with the Legends server is that VI doesn't know how to do PR.

The guild pages, online character sheets, etc are all cool - and probably worth paying an extra amount for. The character specific loot is nifty as well, and I'm sure a lot of people would pay a lot for a permanent "mark" in the game.

VI's big mistake was the fact that they led in with things such as:
24hr GM staff
24hr Dynamic Quests

These are things that players were led to believe would be on the normal servers. Unfortunately, with the way they presented the Legend's servers, they made it sound like this will be the only place you'll see consistent questing.

Lemme see... Been in the game since the beginning.... WE WERE FUCKING PROMISED OVER HALF THAT SHIT FROM DAY ONE.

I think that about sums up the argument.

One cannot expect to have all of the promises met. Verant couldn't foresee the limitations that they would have in the furute way back then. Problems with the code itself, and with the budget, et cetera.

Now that they are willing toventure into offering a service that could provide many of these, due to the player base wanting to pay more, and getting rid of the budget problem, in addition to many of the coding limitations being worked out through current expansions, they feel that they can offer many of the things that could not have been realistic before.

Personally, as long as they don't make it too elitist, I really don't mind.

Incase VI didn't know, theres free online character sheets. Allakhazam(used to be free until they started a cheaper-than-premium-server fee) and Castersrealm have the crappy ones. Magelo's top quality.

My biggest gribe is that they are takeing ALL gm's whowant events from all servers and putting them all on the legends server, and I do rember them saying that events will happen that totally change the game (i.e. orcs razing freeport) and this is one of the things mthey said they would have on the legends server

Because they are asking people to pay more for things that were promised from the start.

No, they're asking you to pay more to get more of the things you've had from the start.

With the exclusion of the new stuff like character sheets and the map thingie.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

Dynamic Content.

24 Hour Customer Support.
> Got a Guide to help me at about 4AM the other night.

GM Run Quests.
> They dont' happen often mind you but they do happen. Take your pick. GMs helping people or GMs Playing around with a quest.

An "Evolving World".
> That is funny. The world is a lot different now than it used to be. Places have changed. There are about 4 times the number of Zones, etc.

No overcrowding issues. (servers were originally meant to be kept at like 1200 to 1400 active players, not 2400 to 3000)

See my post above. The original servers had much fewer zones. The more zones you add the larger the server population can be. Simple math.

And Mog.. READ!!!
They said they are going to hire a complete new GM staff just for this server. They are not pulling anyone from other servers.

I would like to see WHERE Verant promised 24 hour Tech Support.

And EQ is never the same. So it IS Dynamic.
If you get right down to it, every single Footstep you take is dynamic. You never take the exact same step everytime.

The world IS "evolving." Patching. No, it's not what any of us had in mind, but it is still changing and growing.

And their are GM Run Quests, just not very often.

And finally, Define "Overcrowded."

Dad's going to kill you. Really. He is.

It's overcrowded, however, this is both of our faults. VI's bad zone degsigns, and our choices not to go. (Nurga and Drogna. The Hole. etc.)

I'm sorry, Tech Support closes before I get off work, and considering I normally play late at night, I've seen VERY few /petitions answered in the early hours. That's not 24 hour support.

GM Quests are not CUSTOMER SUPPORT Quests. You're talking 2 different things here chuckles.

Evolving world, not a PATCHED world. Expanions are really evolution, just expansion

Simple math my ass. They need more BOXES in the servers. Did you know that, when originally implemented, the box that handled the Temple of Veeshan zone also handled SEBILIS and a couple of other "low use" zones? You get a Trak Raid AND a ToV raid going and BOTH suffer because they're on the same system! High end zones need to be their own boxes or on boxes with low utilization zones (like Felwithe B or Paineel)

I would like to see WHERE Verant promised 24 hour Tech Support.

It was part of their original sales pitch (one of the things they bashed other OLG's about not having)

And EQ is never the same. So it IS Dynamic.
If you get right down to it, every single Footstep you take is dynamic. You never take the exact same step everytime.

I'm sorry, when did Trak quit dropping his teeth? How about the Ghoul Arch Magus and the SMR? Maybe Venril Sathir and the Kunark pants?

Dynamic my ass. Static spawn points, only the loot has the chance to be dynamic. With the exception of the sleeper the players have *NO* effect on the world.

The world IS "evolving." Patching. No, it's not what any of us had in mind, but it is still changing and growing.

Really? With the same people in the same places and the same attitude between the different cities?

Evolution implies that Bristlebane (one of the "original brood") shouldn't be the same as Stormhawk. The evolution you're looking at is Software evolution, not World evolution.

And their are GM Run Quests, just not very often.

On Bristlebane they've all but stopped. The *major* events (that happen on *every* server) still happen, but most other servers still see more "random" GM evens than BB does.

I should stop reading EverQuest threads. They're always filled with people whining about the world not revolving around them.
