Second, though, it appears that he had a bit more information than the web page implied: he was a failing actor who knew that he was auditioning for a very long-lasting job that was going to be embarrassing and uncomfortable, and he knew that he was being taped, even if he didn't know he was being broadcast (and he may have known far more, depending on how staged you believe the show was)
Third, and most important in my mind, it seems that he was able to leave at any point. Yes, he didn't have any clothes, and much of what he had already done would have been in vain if he did leave, but he was not sealed in. It was his own determination that kept him there for so long, not an abduction.
I don't want to defend the show, I think it's a horrible concept: I don't even like the idea behind reality TV, and this is leagues beyond that. But it's not quite as bad as the first article made out. The producers should only be dragged out and beaten, not dragged out and shot.
