Finally, after so long, they are releasing NEW miniatures for the Chainmail game, as well as introducing a new faction!
KILSEK: The Drow Faction will be hitting stores soon. Here's their first miniature: the Drow Mercenary Warrior.
Not only that, but they're releasing a new supplement: Blood and Darkness. Chainmail...UNDERGROUND!
For it, they're releasing some cool new minis. Including my favorite: The Ogre Delver.
And now, here's some random pics.
You know what an Ogre Ranger looks like, but what about a Dwarf Ranger?
If you think this is the sexiest member of Ahmut's Legion...
Then you haven't seen THIS stunning creature...
Mmmm...Otyugh-licious! Bajah has a new friend!
Anyway, this has been your Chainmail update! Now excuse me while I go sniff glue fumes. [ 01-22-2002: Message edited by: Mr. Parcelan ]
NEWS FLASH I FORGOT TO PUT IN!
I actually got the chance to play Chainmail with a few of my friends on Sunday. The following is a ParceReview!
Things Parcelan Liked
-It's like a large-scale battle of chess. There's brute force, but there's also strategy involved.
-It's more personal than a big game like Warhammer or MageCrap.
-The minis are frickin' amazing!
-Three-player battles can be even better than two!
-It's pretty easy to understand...for the most part.
-I like how the miniatures stay true to their D&D counterparts.
Things Parcelan Dislikes
-The miniatures can be frickin' hard to put together. Anyone who does minis for a hobby can sympathize.
-Sometimes, it seems as though Ranged Attacks have all the advantage...
-Command Points should be a bit more limited, I think.
-Some rules are a little fuzzy...
Things Parcelan Wishes Were There
-More instructions for assembling minis.
-Where's the scantily-clad elf babe minis?!?!
Like with all games, it's hard to sum up if you don't play it yourself. But I recommend this as a buy for all miniatures or D&D enthusiasts.
You assemble a small warband of miniatures from classic D&D critters of Six Factions (Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Humanoids, Gnolls and Undead).
Then get a friend with a warband and DUKE IT OUT!
That's a damn fine looking Otyugh, Parce. That looks REALLY good. Others are good, but I dig the Otyugh.

No, I'm sorry, Warhammer is much better than Chainmail. Though I commend D&D for making a miniature wargame, the models, armies, depth, customization, popularity, and all around cool-ness favor Warhammer.
Look at this Deamon of Nurgle and tell me you find ANY of those chainmail models intimidating. It's like comparing Todd McFarlane's toys to Mattels! [ 01-24-2002: Message edited by: Rodent King ]

I'd be intimidated, but only in fear that it might try to make out with me.
And, you'll notice I didn't say which was better than the other, I just said that Chainmail was smaller and more personal. Each troop has in-depth characteristics as opposed to the huge vastness of Warhammer.
Pretty much, Chainmail is like commanding a D&D party with no roleplaying, only combat.
'Sides, Chainmail is more a rich man's game. Warhammer is for bums
And Mattimeo: If you didn't like 3e, then you probably wouldn't like Chainmail. Have fun living in your cave on Stone Age Lane.
There is a reason GW got the lord of the rings game. No one else could even begin to work on that scale. They can...
In the meantime, Chainmail is a good outlet for we D&D players who crave action.
'Sides, would you REALLY buy something endorsed by Azizza?
But as of right now they are not all that great.. Better than most though.
I would probably use Chainmail rules with GW Mini's
I agree, some of the stuff up there is less than good. Usually, Mike McVey does their paintjobs, but I think they got someone different for the ones above. :\

oog oog. You'll see I'm very resistant to changes, especially ones that change core dynamics of games. I hate the new Warhammer 40k, I want my 4 hour games, none of this half hour crud. haven played the new Fantasy, probably hate that too.3rd edition, where's Thac0? theres the massive dice rolling to do anything? where the n00bs? I hate things getting dumbed down and "streamlined". and thats what all new revisions are doing. sorry. /rant off.
Can't be that hard, can it?

Lalamile had this to say about Optimus Prime:
Making your own miniatures isn't hard. Yet they clay you start with usally looks more like your target than your finish product.
Wouldn't clay be like a little hard to work with for mini's? I know GW uses a 2 part resin compound, But i think even something like sculpy would work better than clay.

Yeah, but sculpy tends to crack and fall apart when you fire it. Modeling clay, I assume, will handle the firing easier and also hold together easier in the mold.
