Must be the local Roadrunner. My dad's had RoadRunner up in Raleigh for more than a year now and hasn't had complaint one.
Does your dad game frequently? Thats where my problem is. Packet loss isnt gonna be much of a problem in normal internet browsing, but will be in games. quite a large one
My connection ius dropping 50% of the packets sent to various websites (evercrest, everquest, darkageofcamelot, sok.org, among others) They still open fine, sure. But the packet loss is somethin nasty

I use CompuServe. Our cable modem service is god-awful hell, and DSL is non-existent here.
My choices?
AOL-Time Warner (Roadrunner) Cable Modem service. What I have now.
Sprint FastConnect DSL. 1.5 MbPS Down/256k Up -- 20 dollars more a month than what i use now
56k Dial up. doesnt lose packets but god awful download speeds

Bellsouth DSL is ok, i didn't have many problems with them when i used their services
I miss my Bellatlantic. They were eaten by the Great Satan, "Verizon"
Then again, Raleigh's a lot more cutthroat with it's ISP's than out in the coastal realm.

I play EQ when I'm up there (take my computer with me) and I never ping out or suffer packet loss (I mean I have reeeeeeally low green ping). 'tis a glorious thing. Then again, Raleigh's a lot more cutthroat with it's ISP's than out in the coastal realm.

What area of the country you in? For now, ive seen problems with packet loss on the east coast quite often, but Cadga in NY is fine.
Don't worry, bebe! Everysing will be fine soon!
And my packet loss if fine, I can play games online great.
It goes out for an hour or so every couple months, but other than that, its fine.
Sprint Called tonight. They wanted to try to get us to hook up to their DSL service.
Well, Ill be damned if they didnt call at the right time.

the worst problem i've ever had with my roadrunner connection is that once a month or so the modem craps after getting used hard almost 24/7
all it takes to fix that is a comp reset and un-plug it for a few minutes.
i've had roadrunner now for going on 3 years. (i think, i've had it for all the time i've been in this house i know.)
256 kilobytes down, 128 up (bytes, not bits) DSL.
$14 a month.

See, that would fix my problem if it were on my end. but ive tried that. unplugged modem and computer for an hour, went and played PS2. No luck...
The problem is a router along the line. Same one is where the packets start dropping EACH TIME. Oddly enough its an AOL router.
And the fact that they have me going through 20 hops to get to most servers. nothing less, but a few at 25
