Ok, evertiem I get the patcher to work (usually it wont connect to the internet) then when I go in and put my station name then password when I 'try' to connect to the servers it brings me back to the desktop. Anyone know how to solve this. I have a Rage Fury Pro Graphix card (with updated drivers), direct x 8.1, pentium 4, 56k, and I have SoL. I also have 128 DDRAM. So any sugestions(sp?)? Thanks in advance!

Uhm, WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THE AMD THING FROM?!

In Winnipeg (where I live), lots of computer owners got Pentium 4s in their systems. Over 95% of the new ones were returned. You know why? Because they were defective. If they got more than a few commands at a time, and already had a few ready to do, the processor would go absolutely nuts, and do instructions it wasn't given.

In my post, I was trying to say that maybe the processor was defective. I did NOT say ANYTHING AT ALL about AMD.

Get off my ass.

[SIDE NOTE- I have an AMD 450mHz in my comp. It runs equivalent to a 500mHz Pentium processor, and works GREAT.]

Stop pulling numbers out of your ass.

Pulling numbers out of my ass? If it wasn't for those numbers up there, my parents would've put a probably-defective Pentium 4 in THEIR system.

As far as I know, the new ones we got after that worked fine, it's just the first wave that was mostly broken.

And before that, Azziza said, "He said his processor was a Pentium 4, NOT AMD, so his processor's fine". This implies that AMD processors are utter shit, which they are not. He's the one that started the flame war, and then he basically covers his face and says "Don't hurt me". Not his actual actions or words, but you get my message.

Anywho, it could be anything, really. With computer parts, the producers unknowingly send out small numbers of defective parts. The only way they can know how many there are is how many defective ones are returned. And about the tests, something can pass those tests and still be defective, just like an idiot can pass an intelligence test and still be an idiot.

So, it could be anything, however, I suspect that the Pentium 4 processor has a slightly better chance of being the problem.

Also, now with Pentium 4, Intel pretty much has the processor market cornered in terms of speed, that's true. But, while AMDs tend to be a little slower, they have something Intel doesn't- Higher reliability.

Ignore the anti-Pentium fool. One doesn't troubleshoot by replacing the most expensive parts first.

"Oh, look, my program won't work--guess I'd better swap out the processor to see if that's the problem!"

How ridiculous can you get?

Sorry I'm not familiar with your problem, but don't screw with your processor on the advice of clueless strangers.

I have a Pentium 4 and am AMD Athlon, and both run EQ just fine. So all of you need to just calm down, and let it be. personaly, I use my AMD more, but only cause I've got more ram, better video card and better sound card in it.

Hello Rory (I like the name, BTW).

You might want to look around on Verant's official EQ Tech help page. If you can't find where someone else has allready addressed your problem, you can follow the directons they give for posting system specs and start a thread to ask about it.

It's likely to be your best bet to find your answer.

Might want to check your AGP aperture in BIOS (if you are somewhat experienced with the workings of your computer that is. Do not do this if you dont know your way around, ask someone else.

Make sure it is set to around half your RAM (64 MB)

Though you are running SOL pretty much on the very bare minimum. If you can afford it, buy yourself some more RAM, that might be one of the reasons you have problems. Its fairly inexpensive now, pick up some more if you have the cash.

Also, do you have updated drivers for video and sound? Make sure that when you install drivers and DX8.1, you install DX first, then video and sound drivers. It makes a huge difference.

AMD is generally for gamers, as their budget is more limited in many cases. Plus, AMD processors are designed to process more commands at one time as opposed to Intel's approach of processing each command really, really fast.

Neither the Pentium 4 nor the Athlon XP sucks. They both have their stregnths and weaknesses.

I thought we'd resolved this already.

The prices have nearly doubled on DDR ram since I bought mine in summer. 512megs then is worth about $10 more than 256megs now (source: CRUCIAL.com).

It's scary.

It's very scary. I was looking to grab another gig of DDR last week. I shit my pants when I saw the price.

I'm now waiting for it to (hopefully) go down again.

Actually my point was that a significant number of people have had trouble with AMD based systems and EQ. This is a Proven fact. Another fact is that VI has come out and said THey are optomised for Intel. Therefor If he had an AMD it would be much more likely that the problem was Proccessor/chipset related. The fact is though that he has an P4 so that isn't the case.

And another fact is that More AMD proccessors go bad than intel. Although the numbers are fairly close. Lets not forget which company of the two is actually making money even in this economy. It sure isn't AMD.
And one thing is for sure. That 95% number you pulled out of your ass is... Damn I can't even think of a word to describe how stupid a number that inflated is. Do you really think even the most Die hard AMD fans here will buy that line?

Not to mention the fact that you are telling him that his proccessor is the reaon that ONE program won't work when as far as we know everything else works just fine.

I especially loved the part where you said your AMD 450 was the same as a Pentium 500. In newer chips there may be some descrepency betweeen clock speed and performance. In the older chips this wasn't so.

Do us all a favor and Don't go to work for any company dealing with computer.

I think Kegwen said it best.

A significant number of people have had trouble with Intel based systems and EQ, too. There's nothing about EQ that would specifically give it trouble on an AMD-based system, whether its optimized for Intel or not. It's easy to blame problems on the chips when its usually a problem with the gray mushy computer instead.

Actually I never blamed it on the Chip. Ruvyen did. But there is(was?) a known problem with AMD chips and one or two chipsets. I don't remember all the detail to be honest with you.
