Let me guess. You got the game for Christmas, installed it into your computer, and created a player. You ran in circles around the city you found yourself in, unable to figure out where you were or where you needed to go. Finally, you made it out to the newbie area, attacked a stupid snake and promptly got killed. Then you attacked some more things and died about 20 more times. You finally managed to scrounge up a whole gold piece and started to venture out a little further only go have something much higher level kill you in one shot somewhere that couldn't find your corpse to get your precious gold piece back. Angry and frustrated, you were just ready to delete the whole thing from your computer and take it back to the game store when some high level player came along, gave you a few pointers, equipped you with some nice armor and gave you a cool new weapon and a bunch of buffs. Now you're hooked.... Welcome to Norrath.
I remember back in my newbie days searching for the escaped froglok for his shackles (for the granite pebbles, needed for the sparring armor quest), straying to the wrong part of the island, got killed by an iksar bandit. Despairing of ever getting my corpse back, which had a few cured silk pieces I managed to make, a kind ogre shaman helped me find it, and buffed me on my way. Have any other EQ newbie moments you remember? [ 12-30-2001: Message edited by: Troodon ]
i remember my first dwarf
shaman comes up to me (barb): "hey wheres steamfont ?"
me: uhh ask bob over there ?
bob: its that way
barb: yeah... can you take me there ?
bob: k
me: oo can i come ?
half way through BB that damn ogre poped up the fact that i played UO before EQ i thought i was PKed
then several people laughed at me because i was on a blue server
then later when i was level 18 (highest i have ever been) and in WK i was walking around and saw a a bandit..
me: Hail A bandit !
agrod the whole bandit camp and was killed by a bunch of greens
then EQ quit for a year, then came Nith, my SK... walkin to the necro guild in Neriak.. "hail a ghoul"
"your feet have become entangled"
Loading, lease wait...
ok im done [ 12-30-2001: Message edited by: Anklebitur D'gnome ]
That decaying skeleton never knew what hit it.
*insert other "What does this spell do? I'll cast it on myself and see!" mishaps here*
I remember my first EQ experience. I logged in, was up in the trees of Kelethin. Looked over the edge and went WOW, then leaned a little too far and died for the first time!

I did that with my first character too... but I did it about 16 times before I gave up.
So, I'm running around NK, lalala, nothing can catch me...
Then I smack face-first into Xanuusus.
Mental note: It is NOT a good idea for a level 6 warrior to aggro Xanuusus.
Thank Cazic-thule for kindly passing high-level rangers!
We were all noobs together. And Crushbone was pure hell. I blame DVinn for that. And I go beat his ass like a bitch for it when I'm in the area.
Second Character: Human warrior, reaction:
Need to get basics down... wow this is pretty cool.
Third Character: Half elf warrior, reaction:
Sleep is evil.
Fourth Character: Halfing rogue, reaction:
I made a plat? A WHOLE FUKING PLAT?!
Picked platinum piece from my bank and looked at it for 10 minutes then spent it on a lockpicking kit.
Fifth Character: High Elf paladin, reaction:
Wow pvp servers are cool. STOP HITTING ME, IT BUUUURNS!
Sixth Character: High Elv Wizard, reaction:
Wow, Rallos kicks Vallons ass. Do do do.
A high level comes by and gives me 2k (This is pre-Kunark mind you)...
/shout Im better then all of you!
Is PKed
Fuck.
1836th Character: Dark Elf necro: Reaction,
Looks like I was wrong, inkie necro DO kick ass
Gets level 35, still pre-Kunark
Must. keep. playing.
This. isnt. boring.
Its. not.
Who am I kidding?
1837th Character: Gnbome mage: Reaction,
Hmm... my friends suck. Made me come back from DAoC
/grumble.
That's my entire EQ history.
First character, human paladin. Dude, WTF, paladin's dont have lay hands? Thats BS!
Around level six, I figured out what a hot key was.
Level 8, figured out that I could bash.
Level 9, I got my spells and was so proud.
I remember, one day, I saw a guy in full bronze, which was amazing at the time (There was only bronze, plate, rubicite and mithril and nobody could afford plate. Rubi and Mithril werent even imagined). I was like, I wanna be like him!
I remember making the trek across antonica because my barbarian friend said how much better Blackburrow was then oasis. So I ran my level 12 paladin ass all the way across the world ^_^
Good times!
Me: What is this blue bar that popped up on my screen?
Someone else: Your in the water, swim to the edge.
::: Swim Swim Swim Swim Swim:::
Me: I cant find the edge and I keep getting that blue bar.
Someone else: Use /shout so we can hear you.
Me: /shout I cant find the edge.
::: Swimming has improved (7):::
Me: /shout At least my swimming is getting better.
Someone else: Hey, I found her. She is by the wall. LOL. Tralina, follow me.
Me: I cant see you.
Them: Hit the number 5 key on your number pad.
Me: Oh there you are. LOL
::: Follow::::
It took me several attempts to get out of the water. My swimming skill was like 20 before I ever even got my first kill. LOL.
That was the same character I play now... and after 2 years I'm still only level 28... I still do dumb things... and I still take the boat just to see the sights... except the boat is a spell now and the sights are even more impressive.

First character ever.
A friend of mine who convinced me to buy the game (I damn his soul everyday) hooked me up with a langseax, a shiny brass shield, and a full suit of bronze armor.
I didn't know what a twink was, and back then, I'd never even heard the word.
This was... 2 and a half years ago.
At level 11, I heard about this thing called taunt.
Around level 13, I kept asking how come my taunt never went up. I had it, it told me it worked... but I NEVER got a skill increase.
Then I discovered that, even though I got it at level 1, I still had to stick a training point into it. To this day, I still don't understand why.
Bajah is long gone, though. I deleted him because I wanted to reuse the name as a dwarf cleric, but once deleted, it kept rejecting the name. There's still no Bajah on my server as far as I know, but I can't get the name
After purchasing Everquest for myself, we transfered Odius' stuff to Pesco, then dueled. But some dude was off to one side healing us ( This was when the Qeynos area was still VERY populated, a long long time ago )
I remember seeing the server-wide messages when the very first people on my server got 50. I thought I'd never see 50
I remember my Rusty Scythe, Rusty Halberd, and Dwarven 2her. I carried 2h weapons til I was 17 because I was amazed at how hard they hit. I remember not learning about taunt til I was about lvl 18
i remember, what does fear do?
You lose control of yourself!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH
hmm
walking around newb log at lvl 8, healing people with dark empathy,
Silliddar has been slain by Silliddar!
bwahahaha
went LD with CoB the first time i casted it.
in a word...ouch
lots of messing around with Cob
Got aggroed once by something while in Cob mode, FD'd and died cuz it didnt go away fast enough
Lich was even more deadly.
until one day i found out that the more HP i had, the longer i would live.
I also got a robe of the keeper at lvl 30 thought i was uber.
Silliddar was never really twinked by anyone.
I remember trying to buy a skull of jhen'tra
15frikkin plat.
i thought i was so cool with that
I remember when bronze was good, and crafted was godlike.
I remember camping shadowed men with Paramedic (found out he got to 240 smithing last week) and by stroke of divine aid, we got 2 full visible sets of imbued inky racial, some of which i still use to this day. Very cool lookin, dark purple chain.
/sigh
ahhh the memories

My name was SUPPOSED to be Sangwyn. The first one turned out wrong, though...and it did the same thing to me.
I found out just what Dragoon Z'Ytl looks like.
Never tried to recover my corpse, I was too afraid. :\
I remember being guided around EC at level 5 by a high elf paladin in banded; and being advised to stay away from the orc camps; they were dangerous at my level.
I remember when a griffin jumped the level five warrior I was grouped with near the ruins. I jumped in with my sword to save her!
Lessons learned: 1. Griffs were 30+ levels higher than me. 2. A tarnished sword isn't magic.
I remember getting Derv Cutthroat rings in North Ro and being afraid to wear them, thinking the guards would kill me for it... no joke.

Heheh, hehehe, When I was wandering around Nro on my way back to FP from Oasis with my newly lvled 15 Pally. Ph34ring nothing I ran up to an empty Derv group and saw Dorn. I laughed as he coned blue to me and figured I would take him on in combat. Boy I was glad some one had given me a sow before I left oasis.

Your true n00b moment is losing my Noct blade...
My computer crashed and EQ wouldn't run, sue them not me!!!
When I started playin EQ on Tholuxe, the server was brand new and the highest lvl on the server was a 46 druid.
Next, wood elf druid. I could not find my guild, someone helped me (it was right in front of me too :P). Then I did what most n00bs do.. I attacked my guild leader. Oops. Back at POD lift (seeing the ground for the first time was scary.. I thought something would kill me quick.) same person brought me back to my guild, and gave me some leather armor. I thought I was pretty ub3r. Well I tried to find my way back to the lift, and I ended up jumping off Kelethin. Same person found my corpse for me... they were nice.
Ok, same druid and her wizzy friend. For some reason wizzy (high elf) was KOS in highpass and he was doing the bard mail quest, and got killed in highpass. He could not find his way back to highpass, well I didnt know the way, but what the hell, I got on the boat and went to freeport. I remember walking arround EC for a long time, and WC. Back to EC... and (you know whats coming..) into DE land. Guards killed me quick. 4 boat rides later I learned about 1)bind 2)/corpse.
And my first bard, lvl 1 human. First went to Kelethin to get my warrior's old stuff. (Some cool leather armor and a neat FS sword!). I then wanted to see the world (yup, at lvl 1 even) and ran to Qeynos. I did make it, without getting killed, although I was lost in highpass for a long time while it was dark, I remember sitting in the golden rooster til light. That was fun. I remember that bard never made it past 12, but I was soooo happy with my barnacle BP and black iron armor that I worked hard saving up for. Oh yeah, my dragoon dirk.. I remember getting that..in fact I still have it in my new bards range slot.

Sangwyyn had this to say about Tron:
One of the few people to whom I have gratitude:
When wandering about the Lake of Ill Omen at far too low a level, I got lost, and promptly slain when noticed by a Goblin Skirmisher. After about a half-hour of looking by myself, I submitted to the embarrassment born of my own foolishness and shouted for help. A wood-elven druidess named...I believe...Spitphyre? ...went to much trouble to assist me. Without her, I would've lost my precious whip. I owe her.
On quellous?, female?, Druid?, woodelve?, Spitphyre?, lake of ill omen?
Sound very familiear,, if my memory serves me right, I grouped with her at the mill a few times, she seemed realy nice.
p.s. this is only if my memory is indeed serving me right, but the name sounds veryh familiear

Aye, that would be her.
There was the time I was playing my Jadeth the Enchanter (different servers have different Jadeths...Luclin is a magician, Innoruuk is an Enchanter, TP and Mithaniel Marr are Wizards, etc. No necro Deth, though, cuz playing with dead bodies is icky).
Anyway I was level 1, had my pet, went out into Nektulos to kill some stuff and start levelling. I kill a snake! yay! I kill another snake! yay! I recharge my mana, and wonder if my pet could make it so I can take on a level 2 fire beetle.
I couldn't.
I ran out of mana, pet died, and I started running cross country. I'm running like hell up and down the road trying to find the entrance to Neriak with its guards to save my ass...I find like every dead end that road has, see pretty much all the edges of the zone, never get NEAR the bridge, and by the time I reach the zone to Lavastorm, I have like eight beetles, several wolves, skeletons, and a bear chasing me, and two of the stone guardians chasing my train. I'm screaming "TRAIN! TRAIN!" and zone into Lavastorm.
I zone into Lavastorm, just in time to see someone from THAT zone pulling a train, so I turn and zone back to Nektulos, praying my train has broken up.
I zone in and there's a bard there blasting the last of my train, and he asks the zone, "Wow that was the biggest newbie train I've EVER seen! did the puller survive?"
I reply, "Yeah...then I ran headlong into a train in Lavastorm...I just wanted to get back to Neriak."
He sends me a tell, laughing his ass off, gives me some platinum for the amusing sight (which was really cool), and shows me how to find my way back to Neriak. So never say that casters can't pull. We can pull. It's just the lucky ones who live to pull again who are rare

When I got miandor to lvl 4, I decided to make a wood elf ranger, by the name of Thawos. Got him to lvl 14 while miandor was lvl 8. I quit playin my ranger for a while( I was mad because all I was doing was killing some blues and alot of greens and never got exp) If i knew I wasnt get exp from greens I would have had thawos as my main character....
I went in a 2+ hour corpse run with miandor and a couple others when we attacked the bandits. Reason for 2+ hour was the fact none of us in the group knew where the bandits were in Gfay(one guy just said "I saw some bandits runnin around here once" ...) I never found my body after 2 hours searching Gfay....
So I was one of(if not the biggest) noobie out there.
What made it worse was the fact I didnt know how to use tells or ooc. So I never asked for directions for help for at least 2 weeks when I found out how to use em hehe.
And the 39 druid I have now, I made back in Jan 25th.
Shyttphaest, Dorf Warrior
(First encounter with EQCSR soon after logging in)
Second Character, Half Elf Warrior, followed Rallos, started in Kelethin..
(Met Dorf Guards a moment later, ouch)
Third Character, Talongrymm, Human Mage. Was givin an FBR, and thought I was the shit. Took a boat to Butcherblock, Met Zarchoomi, no longer felt so badass. (Level 4)
I remember hating Qeynos, until I played an Erudite in Toxx Forest. I STILL dont understand why a nightblind race gets the darkest fuckin newbie zone in the game.
I remember my first day as a guide. I remember when I was fired as a guide. I remember gaining respect for the guides, that I still have, they ARE busy people.
Then I remember seeing a post on EQVault about this comic strip called Evercrest. I went to the site, I was unimpressed. The Artwork was cheezy, the humor was kinda lame. A few weeks later, i saw a link to another comic, Called /GU. I was hooked. As I did my ritual rounds of websites and email every day, /GU and Evercrest were the first two stops, and as I watched Woody's artwork become realized by Woody, and define itself, I saw Drysarts work improve greatly, and the jokes in EC get better.
No offense meant, but /GU > Evercrest (Just my opinion, flame if you must.)
lvl 16 full bandedbronze helm and a FS 2h (i was collecting FS weapons too LOL!) i thought i was so leet
this was PRE planes and PRE kunark so i geuss it was KINDA l33t :P i got a BBC later on and felt even more l33t
