My DDR Sticks should be here soon...
Now, saying everything goes alright (Heh...), I'm expecting EQ is going to be packed over Winter Holidays (darn kids, go to your grandparents house, where they don't have computers, ).
1) Given my system isn't top of the line, and my connection is DSL, but should still be fine for running Luclin, would this be a seriuos problem to me?
2) Also, is Luclin still in it's boom stage?
3) Is every N00b, Uber, and their alternate account-computer there?
4) And how is Norrath in comparison? (Is there a major population down there if everyone's up at Luclin?)

OK, crowding in terms that yes, I can find zones that are empty, but what I mean is, with everyone on during the Holidays, will the servers just be overloaded and will I even be able to move in Luclin?
In terms that, if I start a newbie kitty, will I be able to find something to kill?

The initial boom of lowbe kitties is probably over, though I would expect another boom when a lot of peopel get SoL for a Christmas present.
Luclin is fairly big, though I dont know how much option there is for your level range (since Ive never hunted in sol).
Between ToV and all the other rare named etc, I dont think you'll see 'everyone' in luclin. It should be fairly playable. Just a guess though
I still need:
My Nuke, 3 Translocates, and one or two more spells that escape my though...
And then I need my 1-39 Luclin spells, heh.
[Edit]: Forgot to mention I have 16pp to do all this with, [ 12-21-2001: Message edited by: Lashanna ]

[Edit]: Forgot to mention I have 16pp to do all this with,
yea spells are such a pain. I almost cried the day I had to fork over 25,000plat for my shamans Torpor spell...
Which means the hides would probably go for 50 pp, just like HQ bear does, at least on Xegony...

And I was all like 'Oh yeah?' and Mightion Defensor was all like:
If you want to find a tailor or budding tailor, check out the Rockhopper cave in Dawnshroud... they're okay exp at 45, and they drop hides - the HQ Rockhopper hide can be used to make ten slot backpacks... I managed to make three of five last night.Which means the hides would probably go for 50 pp, just like HQ bear does, at least on Xegony...
Hmm.. Nice backpacks... I'll have to see about getting some of my own.

They're the same packs made with HQ bear pelts - 10 slots, 10 percent weight reduction. Compared to HQ bear pelts, they drop like candy. Got five in an hour's hunting with a 58 mage outside the cave last night.

Hehe, maybe your sever's different, but the standard pre-Luclin price for a HQ bear pelt on Sol Ro is 30pp. And these HQ rockhopper hides drop much more frequently than HQ bear hides do. Meaning a lot of the tailors will head up there to farm them. Also means HQ bear hide prices will start coming down, as HQ rockhopper hides are more mre common and easy to get, and work just as well. Good news for the tailors, bad news for newbies who lucked out on finding a HQ bear hide and now won't be able to get as much money for it. Remember back when my brothwr played a barbarian warrior, he got a HQ bear hide off a polar bear cub, sold it for 30pp,a fortune at level 4, got himself a full set of armor and a claymore.

quote:Reynar was right about the newbie cats... Influx is gone til Christmas, then about a week or two after that it'll be gone. As for other zones, Fungus Grove used to be packed (70-100 people), but now that's it's been nerfed to hell and back... It's not as popular. I wouldn't be suprised if Ssra temple was packed(I haven't been there. :\) Because of those Iksar Slaves... Hmm...

That's because there's a newbie quest that calls for 'em. So, they have a fairly good drop rate.
Now, as for hunting with a new kitty:
All the newbie kitties have quests that set them to hunting in "the Pit", the moat-like trench around the city. That will be overfull. So, head straight for Shadeweaver's Thicket (cross the South bridge and keep going). This is a better newbie area, and some classes can find some of their quest items out here.
Gain a few levels, and SAVE YOUR PRACTICE POINTS. All Vah'Shir newbie quests require the use of one or more trade skills, and they all appear to trival at higher than 20 skill. Also, bank your newbie cloak, you will need to turn that in at the end of the quests.
When you feel ready, go back in to the pit to get whatever items you need (lots of No-Drop for most of the quests). It will be kinda laggy there, but you will now be tough enough to survive even with lag-slowed reactions.

A newbie quest? The things are blue to me at 45 and hit for 103 max!

No, the quest calls for a HQ hopper hide from anything that drops it. There are some that are level 1, and can drop it.
However, they had to give it the high drop rate on all the hoppers. Otherwise, you would have people bottom feeding off of the newbie hoppers to get the HQ pelts.
It looks to me as if whomever put together the Vah'Shir newbie quests and Shar Vahl wanted to make sure that everything was very trade skill friendly.
On the good side Norrath has been slightly lowered in population in mid to high level areas. KC, VL, CS all have seen dips in toons, its amazing to me to be able to go to Cobalt scar and see 5 people at high volume times.
Another plus is the amount of quests in SoL already discovered, between the EB neck item, the LSoEE and the fill in for tailoring / smithing trades there is alot to do.
Perfect for vacations...

Ja'Deth Issar Ka'bael wrote this then went back to looking for porn:
And for some reason it seems like everyone and their grandmother got their epic weapons as early Christmas presents. I've seen the Shaman, Paladin, SK, Necro, Cleric, Warrior, Druid, and Ranger epics in the past two days...
My guess is that a lot of guilds on my server have done a big push for epics. I know over on Innoruuk last year (well..give or take) the guilds were having a competition to see who could clock the highest number of Fiery Avengers in their guilds. I imagine it's something similar this year on Luclin with the epics.
